Seeing the world in my own eyes
I was born and raised in China. After high school, I started working as a tour guide. This gave me great opportunities to see a wider world that I would not be able to afford otherwise. In 2002, after six years as a tour guide, I found my desire for a more technical training. That's when I moved to New Zealand and finally got a bachelor degree. After finishing my degree in Computer Science, I found a job in Auckland and hence made New Zealand my second home, which eventually became my country. My six years experience as a software developer was full of excitement and gave me a good view of how technology can change the society and the public. With a desire to get the most out of them, I decided to pursue a PhD in Information Science in 2011. There are a long way until I can make people to call me "Dr". But I am sure it would be full of excitement and hard work.
I am one of those people who don't want to take the shortcuts. I love the feeling when I am challenged physically or mentally. My pleasure comes from digging under the surface or getting very sweaty at the end.
One thing I am sure I will enjoy in my whole life is to see different culture and different people. I guess that is one of the things being a human offers and I certainly don't want to miss any of that.
When I don't travel (a bit embarrassed to admit, it hasn't happen much in the past two years due to circumstances), I enjoy books, movies, and music. I am more about hanging out with people and talking about various topics than going to a pub, getting drunk and waste my time on cheap jokes. There are so much I don't know about. So it is either something I want to share my opinion or something I would want to learn more about.
I think, therefore I am.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
As much as I love to meet people by hosting them a night or two, it's hard for me to do so at the moment considering I live in a small on-campus two-bedroom apartment. So at the moment, I am more on the surfing role. But I promise I will host when I have my own place!
A few times so far. So if there is anything you want to know and I haven't covered, please just ask. I always travel backpacker style. I just love the feeling of getting on the road and meeting random interesting people. I don't think I'd ever choose a luxury hotel over a dorm bed.
Keeping active, music, movies, travel. Just a normal social introvert I guess.
Music, Movies, and Books
I am more into the subject that introduces something different to me, which means I prefer non-fiction over fiction for books. Although there are many great fictions that reach beyond just the stories and bring profound discussions. I love movies about a real life settings. To be honest, I don't really enjoy going to see a movie with nothing more than just someone driving a car really fast or crashed into a supermarket. Music sometimes leaves me speechless. I have no words to explain what I mean.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
So far is the sight of Uluru rock after traveling in a bus for more than a day. It's really nothing like that... so sudden and so proud!
