About Me

CURRENT MISSION

under construction

ABOUT ME

I study comparative literature at the University of Texas. I've worked as a ghostwriter, led wilderness trips, taught spanish and english literature, studied in Jerusalem and Buenos Aires, recently walked the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Now I am settling down in Austin, learning french and Texas two-step.

PHILOSOPHY

To be marvellously yourself like the river water
Gerald of wales says flows in arklow harbour
Even at high tide when you'd expect salt water.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first couchsurfing host in Vienna was wonderful and now I think it's the only way to travel. I love meeting couchsurfers in my hometown. And I am excited to get on the road again!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On the penobscot river in Maine, I saw a dragonfly nymph become a dragonfly.

Teach, Learn, Share

We were all hard at it in the boat
Some of us up tightening sail,
Some down at the heave and haul
Of the rowing benches, deeply cargoed,
Steady keeled, our passage silent,
The helmsman buoyant at the helm;
And I, who took it all for granted,
Sang to the sailors.
Then turbulent
Sudden wind, a mealstrom:
The helmsman and the sailors perished.
Only I, Still singing, washed
Ashore by the long sea-swell, sing on,
A mystery to my poet self,
And safe and sound beneath a rock shelf
Have spread my wet clothes in the sun.
