About Me
ABOUT ME
I am an adventurous individual who enjoys being outdoors and spending time being active. I am a risk taker and have no problem striking up a conversation with a total stranger. When I travel I love to get to know the locals, and their customs, and am always up for a challenge. I thrive in a culture where others share my deep appreciation for land, and believe life is best lived outdoors. I love a hard hike, but also love the water and are happy to spend a day beach side. I thrive in a society with diversity and appreciate a simpler way of living. I am keen of learning about cultures and customs that are different than my own, and enjoy a deep conversation, whether it be philosophical or spiritual. I am not a city dweller by any means, and definitely believe that life is something to explore and experience firsthand. I've been told I should live in New Zealand, as this country gives me endless opportunities to live both an active lifestyle and enjoy the company of new found friends.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've slept on my own couch, it's comfy. :)
I've had many visitors and they were all great. I really bonded well with two of my longer-staying visitors and made them feel right at home in the lovely countryside.
I run the monthly meet-ups in Exeter and arrange small away trips in my City. When I'm travelling, I like to include CSers where I can, either in road trips or using Hangouts. I love meeting new people!
SWEDEN/NORWAY 2023
I travelled solo from Stockholm to Narvik using night trains, hostels and staying with CS hosts.
ICELAND 2023
2022 I ran a trip with 3 newbies in February, we all experienced the challenging weather and northern lights. All last-minute accommodation
UKRAINE
I support Ukraine and have housed a CSer through the homes for Ukraine scheme. We had plenty of awesome hiking and cycling trips together.
THAT GLOBAL "ISSUE" 2020/2021
I didn't do much during this time, travel was more personal with close friends. I visited Scotland on a road trip in Sep 2020 and then went back to Isle of Skye in Sep 2021.
NORWAY 2019
I ran a road-trip doing ad-hoc adventures from Tromsø to Å on the Lofoten archipelago in February. Minus 20°C!
ICELAND 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020.
I started by joining a trip in Iceland in 2015 after hiring a car.
In 2016 I ran an impromptu road-trip for two days.
In 2017, I did a ring road trip with 3 other CSers. We booked accommodation only the day before and stopped randomly wherever we felt needed exploring. It was so enjoyable to see my friends as they learned about an entirely new country.
2018 we went to the Westfjords and found remote hot baths :)
AMERICA 2017 August - September
I travelled with a friend from New York City, New York to San Francisco, California over 5 weeks.
We stayed mostly with Couchsurfer hosts and attended one meet up in Central Park, New York and another in San Francisco.
We road tripped most of it in a fantastic upgraded Ford Mustang 2017 soft top. Oh yeah!
CZECH AND POLAND 2017 November
I travelled solo and Couchsurfed my way across Czech and into Poland via Prague, Brno, Ostrava and Kraków. I really enjoyed meeting up with other CSers using Hang outs and also the solo benefit of changing plans on a whim
PHILOSOPHY
Never tell white lies, always tell the truth even if it hurts, it'll be fixed quicker that way!
THE REAL ME
If it's your first CS experience, you can Skype me and get to know me on Facebook first.
MAKE YOUR REQUEST
Please send me a customized host request :)
I am looking for three things:
1) I'd love to know why you are coming to stay, so tell me about how your adventure brings you here. What do you want to see here in Exeter so I can help you get the most out of your visit! :D
2) Why did you chose me? What would you find interesting about me hosting you? What things you'd like to talk about and what you have in common with or different to me.
3) Say what you're going to bring in return for the hospitality offered, I bet you've got stories, experiences, etc. (I don't talk about money, it's CS!)
Keep in mind:
* Couchsurfing is a community not just a place to stay if you can't afford hostels.
* Hosts provide their couch or bed for free so I expect more than a template message if you wish to stay.
Need more than 4 nights?
* Read my profile and find out about my max stay and how many people I can host, etc. ;) Don't be afraid to ask if you need to know anything else. You will have to ask if you want to bend my maxes.
If you're bringing a friend:
* I'd like to know more about them too. Ensure they have a CS profile so I can learn about their interests, travel experiences and read any references.
Writing a great request will increase your chances of staying with a host: https://support.couchsurfing.org/hc/en-us/articles/200640010-How-do-I-write-a-good-couch-request-
Also, check out this cool article on The 7 Deadly Sins of Couchsurfing: https://blog.couchsurfing.com/the-7-deadly-sins-of-couchsurfing/
I'll do my best to live up to these too and make my stay with you, (or your stay with me) positive, adventurours and insightful. :)
