My name is Alex. My favorite thing to do is to get up on top of mountain ranges and just stare straight down the range at the complex and humbling landscape before me. I was teaching snowboarding in the mountains of California over the winter (yes California has mountains), then decided it was time to pack my bags and see the world. I'm trying to get rid of my antsy side because there are so many things I'd like to do that requires a home life. I've been 'on the road' off and on since I was 18 but never settled down for long. I'd like to go back to school, study politics or history, start a business etc but for now I'm broadening my horizons. I think travel is very important in that respect. Money shouldn't be the only thing able to cross borders in our globalized age. I realize that these trips I take in my youth are going to be very defining as to what kind of adult I become, and the nostalgia they evoke will be what gives my life purpose and a large part of what makes me, me

I love the idea of sharing. I think we live in an age of the rugged individualist, and that ideology has had devastating impacts on society and the environment. Mediums like couch surfing undermine that ideology and are conducive to building community on an international level. I love sitting around the table with people from across the globe and realizing how similar we all are despite everything were taught to believe
