About Me

The info below is outdated. But I'll keep it here for a bit of background. In short: I'm still in Newcastle, unable to host currently, not a student anymore, still fun!

Romanian student from the heart of Transylvania, been living in Newcastle for the past since 2012, started a Masters degree at Northumbria University in September and was thinking to continue my friend/ex-housemate Serban's (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/serbantruta) legacy of hosting couchsurfers. They seemed like cool people and enjoyed spending time with all these randoms from around the world.

I studied Media & Journalism as undergrad, now an MSc in Mass Media Communication Management so I do have a broad knowledge on how the machine works. Nevertheless my interests are broad and can talk about anything. I do appear to be a smartass-all-knowing-prick sometimes but bear with me over a loosening beer.

I am very good at table tennis and not so good at tennis. We can play disc golf, football, Family Guy monopoly (yeah I know) and other stuff.
I am a pacifist and freedom lover but don't associate with any party. Will let you know what I think about your logic; bluntly but with full honesty.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because it's great!

Interests

I read, watch movies, listen to music. It's a rather broad spectrum.

Am interested in world peace, constructing reality, manufacturing consent, intersectional feminism, interpersonal relationships, the way in which we function.

I have an opinion on almost anything and always keen on learning new things.

I DJ sometimes and am part of Northumbria DJ Society. Been behind decks since I was 16. I have a full CDJ set-up in my room if you want to jam.

Mainly I am an observer. I like filming, taking pictures and commenting on anything happening around me. I will drop here some links to my past work:

Music, Movies, and Books

I absolutely love Gorillaz. I do also enjoy all kinds of music which I find pleasing, regardless of the genre or place of origin.

I can't say which book is my favourite but high on my list there would be some by Hunter S. Thompson, John le Carre or Irvine Welsh. But also Noam Chomksy, John Pilger and Nick Davies.

As in movies... probably my favourite is still Paranoid Park, followed by Pulp Fiction and American Beauty. Probably also more that I cannot recall at the moment.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am very proud of a documentary done in my last year of University which I presented at a small film festival but maybe the coolest thing I've done was to win a VIP ticket to Exit Festival in Serbia after coming second in a DJ competition, finding out 4 days before the festival started, finding the cheapest closest ticket to Serbia, flying to Debrecen in Hungary with a tiny budged, hitchiking my way through Romania down to border with Serbia and asking my way to trains and buses to Novi Sad in Serbia where the festival was held. Proceeding to have a blast there (Damon Albarn - Gorillaz, the absolute pinnacle) after which I returned to Romania to hitchike a bit more and visit some long lost the relatives then landed a much needed internship. All within days but a rather successful summer overall.

Teach, Learn, Share

Can teach Romanian and English, deejaying (which I already teach with Northumbria DJ Society), how to drink palinca or tuica (Romanian traditional highly alcoholic beverage) and can also preach about how there needs to be a balance in life as in all.

You can share with me your experience, knowledge, culture and beliefs.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Knowledge, chocolate and body odour (which is incidentally also the recipe for the Powerpuff Girls!).

Maybe palinka.
