About Me

*** I am away from Barclona until the 28th of December 2025. ***

I am a Scot who moved to Barcelona in October 2023. Come and explore the city with me! I love showing people around some of the places I know and I love to exchange knowledge with my guests - sometimes they can tell me new things about my own city.

The most important thing to know is that I have to leave early to go to the office Mondays to Thursdays. I can host people on those days only if you are willing to leave with me at 7am. I get back around 6pm.

Apart from that the only house rule is to be at my place by 10pm on Sunday to Thursday evening (so we can both get enough sleep) and midnight on Friday or Saturday night, unless we are out together, of course.

I like cooking together, going on walks and exploring with my guests, having interesting chats over beer or coffee and going to the beach. I'm interested in meditation, history, languages, science and learning about you and your culture! I don't drink alcohol, but I have no problem with others drinking.

If you are okay with these things, then I look forward to meeting you!

If you read my whole profile I am more likely to accept your request.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to learn about other cultures and languages. Hosting is a great way to help out travellers.

I love showing people around my city. Here are my tips and some places I can take you that cost nothing to visit!:

The Carmel Bunkers - despite the name, it is one of the highest points in the city with magnificent views. It is the site of an anti-aircraft battery from the 1930s and at the weekend there is a small museum with some details of the history and what happened to the bunkers after the war.

The Sagrada Familia - the biggest tourist attraction in Spain! It is on my route to work, so feel free to join me if I am working in the office that day. It's only 15 minutes from my flat. At the weekend I can give you a more detailed tour of the outside. If you want to see the inside and you don't mind getting up before 6am on a Sunday, we can attend the International Mass.

Montjuic and the Olympic Park - Montjuic hill has a fortress on the top which is free on Sundays after 3pm. The Olympic Stadium is often open to the public and the park is always open during the day.

Plaza España Mall Rooftop - at the foot of Montjuic hill is Plaza España. The mall here has a free rooftop with a 360 degree view of the city.

The Gothic Quarter - I can take you for a tour round the narrow streets of the oldest part of Barcelona.

Passeig de Gracia - we can go for a stroll down this famous street, seeing two of Gaudi's most famous buildings, La Pedrera and Casa Batlló.

The Monastery at Pedralbes - a peaceful and historic building with some beautiful sights, this former monastery is free on Sunday afternoons.

Many other museums and galleries (e.g. the Picasso Museum) are free on the first Sunday of every month.

One place that is not free is Park Guëll. A ticket will cost you 18€ but I am happy to go there with you since Barcelona residents have free access.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Pink Floyd, Queen, Jean-Michel Jarre, Beatles, New Order

Films: I like science fiction and anything with a good story. Ghostbusters and The Shawshank Redemption are high on my list.

Books: I mostly read non-fiction, but I do like a good story. Interview with the Vampire was good (almost praeternaturally good :) ).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2022 I took a month off work and travelled through East Africa, using local buses to get between cities. People were so friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. I miss egg rolls and rolex!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a qualified teacher of English as a foreign language. I can help you with your English.

I know enough Spanish that I can help people who are learning Spanish.

I am happy to learn a few words in any other language!

If you are a novice cook, I can teach you a few basic techniques and recipes.

I can teach basic meditation. I am always keen to learn more.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I work in IT, so I am always happy to swap stories of how computer systems can muck things up.

I love science, so I am always happy to talk about that.

Cooking and learning new recipes is always of interest to me. I am happy to share food if I am cooking something.

I understand that some people have limits on how sociable they can be. I am the same. If you need some time alone, I am happy to respect that.

Thank you for reading this far. You can use the word "pineapple" in your couch request to show you have read my profile thoroughly!
