Hey, I'm Izzy. I spent my first 20 years growing up in Perth, Australia, relocated a few times, and until last year was continuing to grow up in Vancouver, BC.
After some time driving around North America, I moved back home and bought an old 1975 caravan that had been partially converted to operate as a food truck. I've been gradually piecing that together and am excited to open up shop this summer!
I like to travel and make things as often as possible.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Connecting with other human beings is powerful, I appreciate the outside perspective. I'm fascinated with sharing economies and really into the community I've encountered so far on couchsurfing.
I've surfed/hosted/carpooled/hitched rides/ given rides/house sat around Europe, South America, Canada and the USA.
Varied and always expanding. I hope to never become uninterested in ideas new to me. As I travel and talk to more people, I'm discovering so many cool things about how we live and design our lives.
I have a background in film studies and photography. When I'm in Perth I play music with some friends I've known since high school and like recording stuff for fun, always down to jam. I enjoy the process of creating, narrative & non-fiction film, philosophy, language, politics, design, diy ethos, lifestyle design, road trips, vegetarian & vegan cooking, collecting & curating stuff, getting out of my hometown and traveling as often as possible. Would like to think I'll find somewhere I want to settle for awhile, but right now I'm ok with moving around and not being tethered to any one place*
*I'll be based in Perth for the next 12-24 months as I'm launching my food truck in November 2016. I'm in the process of moving house, after which I'll be able to host surfers again. You're welcome to join me on the truck and learn about food truck stuff, if I've got time I'd love to show you a few quintessential Perthisms. There's a thriving local arts and music scene I could point you in the right direction of.
Music, Movies, and Books
Everything here goodreads.com/user/show/27845265-izzy and here last.fm/user/superweeds and I like movies spanning from slow burn, existential enquiries, through to the latest Mad Max.
Down to swap films, books, music!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I fell off my bike pretty badly while I was camping out at McKinney Falls just outside of atx. The park ranger was a tiny, energetic lady from Minnesota who scooped me up and proceeded to drive me places over the next two days in her giant white pick up truck while we discussed life and the nature of things, parting ways after breakfast tacos at Maria's on S Lamar when the ordeal was over. THIS GOES OUT TO YOU MARY!
Teach, Learn, Share
I could do my best to help out with any camera issues or answer related questions. I like to shoot 35mm and 120 film photography. Usually shoot video on a Canon 7D but don't always travel with it.. Have added a few bits and pieces to my kit since I first filled this out.
Also if you have any pets, I'm cool with being their bff while I'm in town.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share my experience of opening and managing a small business (which is an ongoing learning experience for me, but may be useful to you), fun stories from the road, insight into growing up in coastal Australian suburbia, my experience writing and filming video content - I love to to work while traveling. If you're working on a project during my stay/your visit I'd love to assist on your production!
