About Me

ABOUT ME

HEY! I'm Jaime from Colombia. I moved to Canada in January 2012 seeking adventure and to pursue some dreams. As someone who likes to seek out different opportunities, I finished my undergraduate here in Canada. I am the kind of person that makes the best out of an unusual situation and finds the good in every problem. I ask, I learn, and I make mistakes, but I always try.

PHILOSOPHY

Try and fail, but don't fail to try .

CURRENT MISSION

To lead by example.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A really good friend of mine, from Japan, told me about Couchsurfing in May 2015, and she got me into it with her amazing stories. I'm on Couchsurfing because I would like to have my own experiences and tell my very own stories about what Couchsurfing is really about.

Interests

INDOOR ACTIVITIES:

-One of my biggest hobbies is to volunteer. I enjoy volunteering in community houses, cooking meals for the homeless, and in youth development and social change movements.

-I'm interested in photography, sustainable development, DIY, and learning languages. I enjoy visiting places that allow me to learn about different cultures, ideologies, and gastronomy. I love meeting new people that are willing to share stories and exchange different point of views.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES:

-I love mountain biking as much as city cycling. For me, there is nothing like the adrenaline of city biking . I have to admit, I am a happy biker at rush hour. I also enjoy midnight bike rides, which can get pretty creepy and scary, but it is part of the adventure. One of my goals is to start racing and bike touring soon!!!

-I'm into running! I run from 5 K to 10 K three times a week. I love to be outdoors, and running has allowed me to appreciate and love nature even more.

-Yoga is something I have recently started doing. It has helped me improve my running by giving me more body strength. I practice Vinyasa Yoga in a hot room, which makes it more challenging. I would also like to learn how to meditate.

-Camping, trekking, hiking, kayaking, and canoeing are outdoor activities that I must do at least once a year. To be honest, I am a lover of scenic sunrise and sunsets. I appreciate nature, and I like to connect with it as much as possible.

-Snowboarding, Skiing and Cross-country skiing are things that I enjoy, it makes me appreciate winter in another different level. I am way better Skier than snowboarder though haha

Music, Movies, and Books

-Favourite music... well, I don't really have a favourite genre. I am really open minded and always willing to discover new talented musicians. But, I enjoy EDM, Folk, Jazz, Blues and Classical. Huge fan of Sinatra though !!

-My favourite film genre is comedy although any kind of movie or documentary that leaves a positive message or reflection of life.

- I enjoy books that teach me about social and environmental issues, sustainable development, architecture, and self-motivation.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have had the chance to horseback ride through the Colombian tropical forest, in where I had the opportunity to meet the Kogi tribe, an indigenous ethnic group. In a translated conversation, I learned about their spiritual beliefs, traditions and lifestyle.

Teach, Learn, Share

I strongly believe that we always learn from one another. I cannot say you will learn something specific from me, or that I will from you. But, I can ensure you that at the end, there will always be a great story to tell and remember. Ideas and innovation come when we are inspired by others.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Dear Hosts,
I know how to cook and clean, plus I am not afraid to speak and share my opinion. I will say, the best thing I can share with you is great conversation, learning, and discovering about my culture, traditions, and gastronomy.
