leaving the ivory tower, named Austria, and experience other countries, other cultures, and most of all, other people with different perspectives of the "meaning of life"
George Orwell wrote in "1984": “The best books... are those that tell you what you know already.” - I at the same time agree and disagree with that quote.
I agree with it, as I'm aware that people - me included - are seeking for acceptance, comfort, recognition,...
I disagree insofar as I'm aware such a perspective is not bringing us, or let's just say me, forward. And forward is where I want to go.
I kinda have a Mantra: "There is no truth, there is only perception". With this attitude the duality of right and wrong disappears. That I don't believe in "God" doesn't mean someone else shouldn't, nor that God doesn't exist. I believe that things can exist for one person and don't exist for another - and both are correct.
It's pretty tough sometimes so I have to recall my mantra everytime I have thoughts like "What bullshit is that guy talking?" I must confess I fail more often than I don't but putting myself in such situations I see as a step in the right direction. Therefore I appreciate having a conversation with people with completley different perspectives, even if I'd probably never agree. Those people are like the books that tell me what I don't (want to) know.
But as confirmation is nothing bad at all, I surely love those "dope" debates where you generally agree with the other persons view but floating the room with hypothetical questions and philosophize about it. And even reciprocal self-affirmation is nothing bad, as long as used rarely.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I know about the diversity in our world, but where do I know it from...movies, books, docu's, stories of friends,...I want experience it by my-fuckin-self! Travelling through a country, talking to the people there, listening to their lifes, and broaden my horizon...that's what I want.
As an Austrian, Im aware of how lucky I am, my freedom of doing whatever I want, sitting in my ivory tower and knowing of catastrophies just by watching the news...But that doesnt mean, that I want to see people suffering, just to say, "Alright, seen it, go back in my tower", neither I won't travel through the world and pity those "poor" people. I won't pity anybody. That would be kind of arrogant, wouldnt it? Because...
What's luck, what's happiness, what's a fulfilled life? Everyone has to find out for him- or herself. Im sure that I can figure out for myself by talking to people who have not that "privileges" (according to capitalism) but radiate a lust for life even though or (and probably thats the point) just because they have not that ideal of a fulfilled life like the people I see in the daily grind do, who work from 9to5, still their need of consumption but are not able to get satisfaction at all.
People, who are able to be happy, living a fullfilled life, not in a materialistic way, but in a way we - in our ivory towers - have forgotten, and those who can tell me stories about their travel-experiences can maybe help me to find out, what really matters for myself! That's why Im here on Couchsurfing!
So far only nice experiences. Found a couch in an emergency-case just hours after sending the request, got two new friends in Fabian and Yvonne who I already visited in their hometown Berlin. Easiest way to find a couch are former CouchSurfers you hosted ;)
