About Me

What’s up, surfers 🏄🏼‍♂️

I’m Jannik – a 21-year-old from Germany who just returned in late April 2025 from an unforgettable journey through Asia and Australia. For over a year, I travelled with just a 30L carry-on backpack through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia. Sounds crazy? Maybe. But for me, it was the best decision of my life.

I wasn’t chasing fancy resorts or tourist hotspots. I was chasing moments – deep conversations, the taste of street food made with love, and the feeling of sitting on the floor in a local family’s home, sharing stories even without speaking the same language. I stayed with locals, made real connections, and found friends who felt more like family. Learning about new cultures, different ways of thinking, and seeing how people live in totally different circumstances – that’s what truly fascinated me. The temples were cool, but the real magic was in the people.

That’s also why the whole Couchsurfing concept instantly clicked with me. I’m super curious about people – their backgrounds, their habits, their stories. I genuinely believe we can learn something from everyone. I love connecting with people from all walks of life and diving into conversations that open your mind and heart. Communication and helping each other out… that’s what it’s all about, right?

I’m new to the Couchsurfing world, but the idea behind it already means a lot to me. I’m simple, spontaneous, and love sharing good energy. Whether it’s cooking together, going for a run, or just vibing over a good talk – I’m here for it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For me, it’s all about real human connection. After over a year of traveling through Asia and Australia, I realized the best memories weren’t the places I saw, but the people I met. Couchsurfing feels like a way to keep that energy alive – sharing stories, laughs, meals, and experiences with people you’d probably never meet otherwise.

I’m fascinated by different lifestyles and love hearing how people see the world. Everyone has a unique story, and I think we grow the most when we open ourselves up to those stories. Couchsurfing isn’t just about a free place to stay – it’s about cultural exchange, mutual respect, and creating those unforgettable moments that make life special.

I’m always down for deep talks, spontaneous adventures, and good vibes. And if I can give back or help in any way – whether it’s cooking, sharing travel tips, or just being present – even better.

Music, Movies, and Books

I’ve got love for all kinds of music – from smooth jazz and classical vibes to house, rap, and a bit of techno when the mood’s right. Music always depends on the moment for me. Sometimes it's dancing around to a beat, other times it's just sitting still with something soft in the background.

But honestly, some of the best “music” I’ve heard has been out in nature – waves crashing, birds singing, the wind moving through the trees. Silence isn’t really silent when you listen closely. That’s a whole different kind of rhythm, and I love it just as much.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my favorite travel experiences happened completely spontaneously – I got invited to an Indonesian wedding while I was exploring the country. I had no idea what to expect, but it turned out to be one of the most heartwarming and unforgettable moments of my trip. Everyone welcomed me like family, even though we barely spoke the same language.

I also had the chance to stay with two local friends – one in Jakarta, one in Bali – and both experiences were so real and special. I met their families, shared homemade food, laughed a lot, and got a glimpse into daily life that no hotel or hostel could ever offer. It’s moments like these that remind me why I travel: to connect, to learn, and to feel at home in places far from my own.

Teach, Learn, Share

When you do something, do it with all your heart. Whether it's a small task or a big adventure, putting your full energy into it makes all the difference. Life’s too short to do things half-heartedly. When you give your all, not only do you create something meaningful, but you also find joy in the journey. So go ahead, pour your heart into everything you do – the world will feel it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

What can I give back? Well, I’ve got plenty of travel stories to share – from wild adventures to quiet, meaningful moments. I’m always up for a good chat about the places I’ve visited and the amazing people I’ve met along the way. Plus, I’m happy to introduce you to some cool aspects of German culture – whether it's food, language tips, or just sharing a bit about life back home. Let's swap experiences and learn from each other!
