Overview
About Me
I am currently a Civil Engineer for the government. I served active duty in the Navy for ten years but got out in 2023. I tried flight school before this but couldn't stop throwing up in the plane, so they made me go do something else. Prior to my Navy career I worked at a shipyard building aircraft carriers and submarines.
I've lived in Norfolk, VA; Annapolis, MD; Pensacola, FL; Gulfport, MS; New Orleans, LA; Oxnard, CA; Guam; Escondido, CA; and currently live in Ventura, CA. I've traveled to 40+ states, both coasts of Canada, Costa Rica, the UK, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Palau, FSM, MLH, Philippines, Indonesia, and Timor-Leste.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To meet new people as I travel. Meeting locals is so much more rewarding than staying alone in a hotel.
Couchsurfing allows me to step outside of my comfort zone and meet new people crazy enough to let me sleep on their couch/stay on mine. Life gets dull, crazy can be good.
Interests
I love working with my hands. I have a motorcycle and a 30 year old sports car that I love to maintain.
I hate gyms but I love working out. I bike, I run, I row, I yoga, and I love being outside. Don't like swimming, hate cold water.
Music, Movies, and Books
I'm a fan of indie rock. I typically listen to NPR.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've ridden a free bicycle from Seattle to Portland in one day. Thats over 200 miles on someone's craigslist junk. I've actually made the journey three times.
I've ridden my motorcycle over 4600 miles in two weeks, couchsurfing the whole way! LA to Seattle to Gulfport, MS.
Teach, Learn, Share
Couchsurfing is not code word for emergency crash pad.
If:
- you don't have references
- nothing in your profile is verified
- you don't say anything unique to me in your message
- you make your request on the day you want to stay
- you don't have a picture of your face
then I will probably not accept your request. I realize that everyone has to start somewhere, but this is the attitude that hosts hate. The secret of Couchsurfing is that spending the night is just an excuse to meet locals. It's all about the people, not the place to sleep.
What I Can Share with Hosts
My life story, a good IPA, engineering wisdom. I might be able to fix something of yours, perhaps a lawn mower or the WiFi.
