About Me

Currently a digital nomad since the pandemic after indefinitely leaving California in February 2022. I've stayed three months or more in Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Thailand, and currently in Turkey. Also lived in China for a few months but I was young.

I love traveling and meeting new people. I like nature and the outdoors and like hiking and scuba diving. I am a bit of a foodie and really like spicy food. I'm very chill; I enjoy bars but not clubs. I prefer places where you can easily hear people two or three chairs away. I also like board games (especially if you have to lie) and talking over coffee, tea, or matcha. After travelling and hiking/nature, my biggest hobby is gardening. I have no interest in sports.

I prefer to stay a few months in a single city and make lots of local friends and learn a lot about the culture and language. I will do most things that locals want to show me, and eat pretty much anything that a local offers me.

I'll talk to you about American culture but I don't really want to talk about American politics specifically. It seems like everyone in the world has strong opinions on American politics.

I'm mixed white and chinese. I was born in Florida, grew up in Dallas, went to school in Houston, then worked in the San Francisco bay area. My family is from New Orleans and Beijing.

I really really love nature. My favorite places are Sequoia, Mt Rainier, the California coast, the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, Valley of Fire, Sedona, Yosemite, Mt. Tamalpais, Monterrey, the Washington coast around La Push, the Olympics, the North Cascades, Seattle, the Sea to Sky Highway near Vancouver, the PNW in general, the bayou around New Orleans, and NYC.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet people and learn how they live and what their culture is. I also want to give back to this community that's shown and taught me a lot. I also want to make friends that I can visit and run-into in other parts of the world.

I don't have goals to travel to x number of countries or anything like that. I'm just trying to learn and understand how the world works.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share lots of stories and advice. I like giving recommendations about places I've been. Usually I give much more recommendations than people expect when they ask me. Especially with nature and nice places in the US, which I find many people don't actually know much about.

I can teach how to play Fly Me to the Moon on piano, with all the chords, and why the chords work that way. And other jazz chord progressions that are related.

I can cook pasta or vegetables in a Californian style, or chili in a southern USA style, or some chinese american dishes.

I can give great recommendations on nature, mountains, deserts, and forests in the western united states.

I know a lot about clean energy, climate change, capitalism, and food systems/plants affect on history, if you're curious.

I know a lot of chinese, asian american, and american card games. In general, I can tell you about an asian american experience. I can talk about race a lot. Because I'm mixed, my race comes up wherever I go. There is no country where I look like a local.
