About Me

(Couchsurfing is not a dating app, if you are interested in that use tinder or write someone else, thank you)

Hola! I'm Julia and I like to spend my time by figuring out how I like to spend my time, preferably discovering new places simultaneously. I am currently writing my thesis on cultural appropriation in starwars and am very open for discussions. I grew up without having an idea what traveling is, budget was limited so me and my family went on camping trip after camping trip (if you are interested in the German or Scandinavian country side I could give you some advice) but thankfully I grew up in germany's most beautiful city: Hamburg. I always had this curious fascination for heterogenous cities that somehow cram so many cultures, thoughts ,passions and visions in one tiny place. I lived in Mumbai for some time and the experiences I made kept me in a stage of ongoing happiness, India taught me how not having a plan will gift you the craziest adventures. I enlarged my horizon tremendously and totally got addicted to discovering new places, talking to people and kind of getting an idea how massive the (social)world really is.

Interests

I am a huge nerd in some fields, meaning that I get really intense about the things I like.
One of these things is analog Photography: I am currently on some art projects with my favorite cameras and love collecting lenses and vintage cameras!

  • pink floyd
  • climate change
  • herman hesse
  • 80s rock
  • 80s in general
  • ghibli movies

Music, Movies, and Books

I love herman hesse, I love rushdie, I love all sorts of books, as long as they really capture the magic of one's ideas. Some books make you feel like drowning, others make you feel adventurous as ever. But don't come with nikolas sparks shit they just make you feel like capitalism is too real.
Music wise I am one of those who say "I listen to everything, really" but not in the sense of "I really just listen to pop but you know..." My current favorites are however: Ariel pink, To Rocco Rot, Nick Cave, Future Islands, The Nerves, Nina Simone, Fela Kuti, Air, Human Abfall, Vagabon, Los Reyes de falsete (totally recommend!!!!), joy division ahhhh I just like too much, but I am always interested in adding some tresures to my taste collection!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ah I feel like every day is a great experience. If I had to name just one right now, it will probably be me panicking in darjeeling( last year something called the "demonetization" happened in India, which left me and almost all Atms without a single penny), I felt really lost as I had no money plus no place to sleep, frustrated I did the only good thing someone could do in a crisis like this: ask for help. I met a really fascinating Irish lady, who had 3 times as much life experience as myself, an Indian doctor and Indian cook, who also happened to own a hotel I could stay at. We joked around and the world already got a little better, I spend the next days with my Irish mentor discussing every thought I ever had on this planet and started to believe in fade(cheesy I know, but come on: would be a reaaally lucky coincidence otherwise)

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a really cool Chai walla as a friend in Mumbai, his chai is the greatest and sometimes I ask my friends to bring him chocolate from Germany as a gift. I can tell you where his stand is!

Terrible food I made and also lovely wine conversations
