About Me

To be present. To find out about the important and the beautiful.

I've returned from one year's hitchhiking trip to South America. I live in a commune in Northern Helsinki, study in the Uni and try to find the beauty in every second I'm alive. Also political activism, dumpster diving, poetry, student magazine and partying.

I'd say I'm an easy person to hang out with but difficult to know thoroughly. I'm outgoing but love being alone as well. I meta-think about things very much and observe how people behave and how this world and it's systems work. I'm also a young rebel (...:D) and open to everything that challenges the norms we live by. Or I live by in the Finnish culture: the norms of your culture are probably different, and worth learning, if not experiencing, about.

By now, I have come to the conclusion that us people don't need much. The only things that are truly valuable are our memories and experiences, and the people whose lives we touch. In other words, I'm quite anti-materialist. Materialism, in my eyes, is the main reason for the catastrophic state of our Earth today, which is very twisted and wrong as materia can never give true happiness.

I write, read and love music. I also make it, but I still need more courage to share my songs. I also love theater and acting. Ahh, I love life! I realize that this isn't same for all, and my life mission will be making people around me happier and fix the injustice in the world. Idealism for the win! is my travel blog. Mostly in Finnish, something in English and perhaps more in Spanish later on.

Mmmmmm. Haven't figured this out yet. I'm working on it, though, have been for years. I just want to be happy and useful at the same time. I want to go big and change the world!

I want to be still and really pay attention to the beautiful world we live in; notice the small things and the beauty in them.

I seek truth as in seeking the real essence of life, us humans and the universe we've been thrown into.

I want to be present. Present at the moment and place I'm living, present to the people I encounter. I want to be true to them, and also others to be true to me. I think that's the best thing you can give a fellow human: your attention and the moment you share.

To ask questions. To question the answers. To embrace the uncertainty.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Surfing and hosting!

Basically lived CSing for a year in South America, Caribbean and Europe. I've surfed in Finland, too, and arranged events here for surfers.

Books, music, photography, theater. Arts, from the past and the performances in this time.
Musicals. I have acted in one (one of the coolest things I've ever done!) and am currently taking part in writing one.
Deep discussions, inspiring company and crazy stupid ideas and adventures you must jump into as as soon as you come up with them. Seeing the absurdity of life and being able to laugh at it.
Seeing the situation comedy in everyday life; laughing at yourself.
Poems, lullabies.
One-way tickets.
Old people. They've got the wisdom. Or at least interesting stories to tell.
Forests, mountains, seas, fields. Wandering.
Night swims.
Night walks.
Night talks. (hehe)
Bare feet. All the time in summer.
Seasons. Change is beautiful. I love Finland in all of her dresses; the bright fire-coloured, white, pale green and the colourful summer dress she's beginning to take off right now.
Traveling, obviously.
Philosophy, ethics, human rights.
Socialism, anarchism, equalism, pacifism, vegetarianism.
SPORTS! Wandering, running, dancing, gym, volley ball.

Music, Movies, and Books

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been to an amazing road trip with my best friends. The whole trip was a dream, and on it we saw dolphins and a double rainbow in Lapland and Norway. It was magical.

One year of wandering around South America, Caribbean and Europe.

A hitchhiking trip to Lapland.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can of course teach Finnish and every other language I know. I love to talk about novels and poetry I've read, and plays and movies I've seen, so if we share an experience on some piece of art, I'm sure the conversation on it will be interesting. I can also play piano and teach you what I know: not much in theory but some more in practice. Singing in harmonies is one my hobbies, too. I listen to music and then start making up a harmony to the melody. Fun fun!
I can cook and bake and teach that. I'm a (kind of) vegetarian, so I've specialized in vege and fish dishes. I'm also good at improvising when I cook :) love all African, South American and Asian kitchens and would love to learn more about them.

I'd love to get better at photographing. I'd love to learn Spanish, and how to play guitar. Or any other instrument! I'd love to get better at acting as well. And oh my oh my how I'd like to learn to skate!! The latest wow-i-gotta-learn-that is the Inca language Quechua.
