to live well
I like to think and cook and eat and learn and play basketball and read and do lots of other things. Life is short and I want it all.
My dad says, "if you're bored, you're probably boring"
"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict everything you said today" -Ralph Waldo Emerson
"this is a broken world and we live with broken hearts and broken lives but still that is no alibi for anything. On the contrary, you have to stand up and say hallelujah under those circumstances" - Leonard Cohen
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Both hosting and surfing- couchsurfing is pretty much one of the best things ever.
Thanks to couchsurfing I've eaten some of the most delicious chocolate of my life from Germany, seen 4th of July fireworks from a Manhattan roof, frolicked in an Annapolis Valley apple orchard, gone to my first dubstep night in San Francisco, and been confronted with the most impressive pancake menu I've ever laid eyes on in Birmingham.
I'm interested in the intersection of science, technology, design and philosophy. I love to cook and eat and talk and think. I also really love to play basketball, and watch baseball.
Music, Movies, and Books
My favourite musician is Van Morrison. My favourite books include:
Godel, Escher, Bach, by Douglas Hofstadter
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, by Robert Pirsig
Lila, also by Robert Pirsig
The God of Small Things, by Arundhati Roy
The Dispossessed by Urusula Le Guin
Temporary Autonomous Zone, by Hakim Bey
The Elegance of the Hedgehog, by Muriel Barbery
My favourite movies include:
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was in the stands to see a perfect game pitched.
Teach, Learn, Share
In the past I've taught both music (violin/viola) and basketball, but those don't seem very well-suited to couchsurfing for some reason.
I'd love to learn lots of things... swing dancing- I'd definitely love to learn to swing dance!
