About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Your happiness grows in direct proportion to your acceptance and in inverse proportion to your expectations.

ABOUT ME

I'm a gypsy by nature and by design. This is a pretty nifty planet we have here, and I like looking into all the hidden nooks and crannies.

PHILOSOPHY

"Leap and the net will appear."

Yes, I read it on a card at Whole Foods. But, it's true, you know?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

It's tough to always rely on chance to meet interesting people in a new place, so I like using CS to find like-minded people to spend time with.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The best ever? After taking a disastrous job as caretakers of a Bed and Breakfast in Maui, my wife (at the time) and I were forced to flee. We ended up living in the laundry room of the estate of some reclusive NY millionaire. We stayed at the invitation of the property's caretaker: a nudist, Chris Farley look-alike who enjoyed boogie-boarding, smoking weed, and his work as a massage therapist. I don't think I've ever met anyone else so close to Nirvana.

I have met some wonderful people through this website, both as a host and as a guest, and I have even had the chance to visit a few people I have hosted while passing through their home countries (and it was wonderful to go to new places and know I already had a friend there)!

Interests

Walking. Talking. Eating. Laughing.

You know, the usual stuff.

  • music festivals
  • vegetarian
  • music
  • wandering
  • zoos
  • progressive politics

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything by David Fincher, Paul Thomas Anderson, Tim Burton, John Waters, the Coen Brothers, Christopher Nolan, Danny Boyle, and Pixar...

Music? Too much to list. I'm still a downloader instead of a streamer.

I enjoy Dave Eggers, David Sedaris, Neil Gaiman, Hunter S. Thompson, Tom Robbins, and a lot of the stuff published by McSweeney's.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

With my friend Beth, we took an early morning drive over the highest driveable road in the world (18,383 ft) to attend a teaching the Dalai Lama was giving to hundreds of Tibetan refugees on a hillside. Later that day, we saw camels in a mini-Sahara nestled within the Himalayas.

Yes, that really happened.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm good at finding things to do. I am also skillful at giving good gifts.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a lot of stories...
