Sobre mí

DISCLAIMER: Haven't been able to update my profile in a couple years so some information might be outdated 😅

Hey there!
I'm Lucas. I have been in Egypt for over a year now and am looking forward to welcoming you in my beautiful apartment!

When I'm traveling, I love to meet new people in hostels, in cafés, at the beach or wherever else I can. As a solo-traveler, it is always nice to have somebody to share beautiful moments with.
I think the best way to get to know a new place is to walk around aimlessly until you're completely lost - that's when you find what you were looking for!

What I love about long-term traveling (esp. solo-travel) is that you really get to know the country you're in and its people, but also yourself - plus all the awesome food of course!

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

Through CS, I hope (and have often had the chance) to meet new and awesome people and hopefully friends, see the country I'm in from the perspective of someone who lives there, eat local food, get to know all the secrets and insider tips about the city I'm in (also the couch to sleep on of course)!

And as a host, I want to give guests exactly that :)

Música, películas y libros

Music: Oh man, do I love psychedelic rock! Everything from the Grateful Dead and the Beatles to the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
When I´m at a concert, it doesn't matter which genre though - live, everything (or almost everything) is good!
I also enjoy folk (Dylan, Cohen...), Jazz (Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Don Cherry etc), Indian sitar music (e.g. Ravi Shankar), and some punk and techno.

I recently discovered Qawwali music, a type of Sufi music from Pakistan and India. Ustad NFAK is a legend, as are Fereed Ayaz, Abida Parveen and Ustad Ameer Ali Khan.

Books: For favorite author it's a tie between Hermann Hesse and Jack Kerouac. I also enjoy Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Max Frisch, Paul Bowles, Satre, Camus, Dostoyevski, Günter Grass, William Bourrougs, Tiziano Terzani, Ken Kesey, Thomas Mann, Eco, Kafka, McKenna, Alan Watts,

Poetry: I love Allen Ginsberg! I am also a big fan of Tagore, Gary Snyder, Kahlil Gibran, Walt Whitman, Kabir, Chinese poetry, the Haikus of Basho. I have a special love for the Sufi poets of Persia such as Rumi, Attar and especially Hafez.

Movies: My favorite movies are: Pulp Fiction, Apocalypse Now, Samsara, La grande bellezza, Darjeeling Limited, The Apu Trilogy, Three Idiots, Gangs of Wasseypur, and so many others I can't remember right now!

TV-shows: The Office, Lost, Black Mirror, Trailer Park Boys, Stromberg, Bojack Horseman

Podcasts: Joe Rogan, Duncan Trussell, Chris Ryan, Bobby Lee, Theo Von

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I love to learn about other people's views on pretty much everything: their culture, religion and country, the way to live life.. And it is always nice to exchange points of view on these topics.
Many (well, a few) people I have met while traveling are learning German, so it is always great to try to speak some German with them. I am trying to learn Hindi right now, so it would be cool to pick up some new phrases.

Many of the hosts/friends I have met have taught me some Hindi along the way, which I am trying to use as much as I can. I was also taught how to make chapatis, Pakistani and Indian Chai, I used virtual reality for the first time while being somebody's guest... Many things I have learned from meeting Couchsurfers.

But most importantly I have learned one thing from people who have hosted me: the incredibly beautiful and inspiring human quality that is hospitality!

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

Exchanging stories and thoughts, cooking meals (my specialties: Mexican veggies). We could also bake some nice Italian cookies. And don't worry, I'll do the dishes ;)
Chances are I'm bringing some good Chinese or Japanese tea with me, so let's share a cup of tea, too!
