About Me

CURRENT MISSION

If you don't know where you're going, it doesn't matter how you get there.

ABOUT ME

Male, 19, I'm just a nobody from west middle-of-nowhere massachusetts. I moved to Cambridge/Boston to get me some learnings, and discovered that college is only one part of a well-balanced education. I'm still working on the growning up, but I'm an okay guy, (a tad out of control, too much of a wiseass for my own good). I have a few good stories, and I'd love to hear a few more. If possible, I'd love to add a story or two to my collection; youth is always up for an adventure. I certainly would enjoy the company of some people who would just want a pleasant conversation and a cup of tea; I also wouldn't mind helping someone have the adventure of a lifetime. There are just so many interesting little things out there, I'd love to see some piece of all of them.

PHILOSOPHY

To learn, and to do right. My mother once said to me, "life isn't fair, the purpose of life is to make it fair" and I'm pretty cool with that. A long time ago I was very afraid of my death, so I started reading a lot of philosophy to try and come up with some purpose. THe philosophy was (and is still) all very interesting, but I found that just taking an interest in the things both around and within us, no matter what they are, is extremely fulfilling.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I once couchsurfed with these Hasidic Jews while in Boston. I wouldn't describe the experience as, say, spiritual, but much more profoundly practical. I found that even extreme religious practice need not be so detached from the secular world.

Interests

Mathematics (Topology, Logic, Computation), Philosophy (General epistomology, Wittgenstein, Phenomenology), Buddhist thought, Russian Literature (translated, unfortunately), the beauty of the natural and industrial world, strange people (often with stranger hair), whitewater canoeing, chopping wood, the development of the intellect, helping out folks who need a helping hand.

Music, Movies, and Books

Unfair! Here are a few books I've enjoyed, whether or not I remember them all that well; Wittgenstein's Logical Investigations, White's The Once and Future King, Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment, Musashi's Book of Five Rings, Lautremont's Maldoror. Music; some genres I enjoy; Contemporary Choral (Arvo Part), Drum 'n Bass (Bong-Ra, Enduser), Nu-metal (Mindless Self-indulgence), Celtic (The Cottars), Balkanese Folk (Bulgarian primarily), and Hippy-folk (Jethro Tull); Movies; Pi (for the cinematography, I rather disagree with the message), maybe The Matrix, Orpheus, Totoro, Secretary, etc. (I don't really watch movies).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well, I survived almost dying from "severe intestinal blockage". I've done some other fun stuff (jumped off some bridges, lost and refound my mind, hiked some not-so-interesting mountains, and generally rocked out), but I think the best is yet to come.

Teach, Learn, Share
