be, don't do
I'm a transplant from the east coast of Canada, now a postgrad at the University of Oxford, studying Economic and Social History. I'm trying to travel as much as I can while I'm here while somehow managing to pull of finishing my Masters and possibly my doctorate. Right now I'm working on a project where I spend a lot of time at the intersection of morality, medicine, and neoliberalism. It's a good time.
A few years ago, I lived for eight months in a L'Arche community in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia where I shared life with people with developmental disabilities. It was a fantastic experience and really changed the way that I look at the world. Now more than ever I appreciate relationships between people and the simple but precious gift of being a friend. I'm always thrilled to meet other L'Archies in my travels.
Aside from school and travel, I love to sing, play violin, guitar and piano. I am a sometimes-rower, most-times jogger, mediocre swing-dancer and beginner salsa dancer. I like sharing a bottle of wine with friends and eating bread and cheese, going for long walks (seriously), and live music. I've also been quite politically active for a while, and am interested in supporting and learning about the struggles of working people all over the world.
be grateful, be present, be just.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
worked as a counsellor at a summer camp for two summers after spending eight summers there as a kid. one week two years ago we had a girl who was a rwandan refugee, and she couldn't speak a word of english. i tried to communicate with her in french for the week and eventually she came out of her shell and was always smiling and laughing even though she didn't understand the language that the other kids spoke. when she went home at the end of the week, she said to me "ne m'oubliez pas" and gave me a hug. i cried a lot.
