About Me

Hey! It’s Mateo — a psychologist by training who chose curiosity over comfort and set off in 2019 to collect people, stories, and small unforgettable moments. Leaving my own company and everything familiar behind wasn’t a one-time act of daring, but a daily decision to live slowly, listen more, and let each place change me a little. 🌍

Travel taught me to be both useful and social. I’ve spent years volunteering, living with host families, and even I worked for Worldpackers — experiences that sharpened my respect for routines, my willingness to help, and my habit of leaving a place better than I found it.

I create travel content and photography, so I also enjoy helping capture the moments that matter — but never at the expense of your comfort or privacy. 📸

With me you’ll get honest, friendly conversation (I love deep and curious chats), reliable help when needed, a storyteller who treasures your city’s hidden corners, and someone who treats each place with care. I’m happiest when a short stay turns into a genuine human connection.

Hosts and surfers often mention my respectful energy and how easy I am to live with (based on my references). ✨

If this sounds like a fit, send a message — I’d love to meet, share a meal, go for a walk, or help out while I’m in town. Wherever we meet, you’ll have a friend on the road.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on Couchsurfing because this is where the real adventure begins — not on the bus ride, not at the viewpoint, but in the moment someone opens their home and suddenly two completely different worlds collide.

I’m here because I crave those electric, unpredictable moments: sharing a late-night conversation that shifts something inside you, exploring a city through the eyes of someone who truly knows it, or sitting at a kitchen table halfway across the world and realizing you feel oddly at home. Couchsurfing is the heartbeat of my journey — the place where generosity creates connection, and connection creates meaning.

Every time I stay with someone, I’m reminded why I chose this life: to learn, to grow, and to meet people whose paths I never would’ve crossed otherwise. If hosting me brings even a fraction of the magic it gives me, then we’re both winning.

Interests

I’m a knowmad to the core — driven by curiosity, pulled forward by instinct, and fueled by the thrill of not knowing what the next day might teach me. My interests aren’t boxes to tick; they’re sparks that ignite new adventures. I’m the kind of person who wakes up for sunrise just to chase the perfect light 🌅, who dives into rivers without overthinking 🌊, who follows strangers into hidden alleyways because something in the air whispers "go".

I’m addicted to learning — picking up new skills, absorbing stories, and letting each place shape me in its own unpredictable way. One week I’m helping on a permaculture farm 🌱, the next I’m hiking to a waterfall 🏞️, and the next I’m swapping ideas about psychology, culture, travel or whatever wild topic keeps us talking until 2 AM.

I chase the pulse of every place: the food someone proudly cooks for you 🍲, the secret lookout only locals know 👀, the deep conversations that shift your perspective 💬, the unexpected detours that end up becoming the best stories later. Adventure isn’t a part of my life — it is the way I move through the world.

Always open to a new skill, a local secret, or a late-night idea that changes the way I see the world 🌍 — teach me something.

Music, Movies, and Books

I’m fueled by stories — the songs that make you move, the films that bend reality, and the books that twist your mind in the best way. 🎧🎬📚

Music: I’m into indie, folk, traditional rhythms, and lately pop and electronic too. And yes — I can actually dance now, so if you want a partner, I’m in. 💃🕺

Movies & Video: I love bold sci-fi, psychological thrillers, clever heist vibes, and anything that makes you rethink the world. On YouTube I’m deep into science, culture, geopolitics, philosophy and comedy — anything that expands how I think or makes me laugh. ⚡

Books: I lean toward classic storytelling, emotional depth, and sharp mysteries — books that make you feel and think. I’m not into magical-realism or heavy ancient tragedies; I want stories that explore what it means to be human. 📖

If you have a playlist, movie or book that hit you hard — share it. I’m always hunting for my next favorite. 🌍✨

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I can’t point to just one “amazing thing,” because my life keeps throwing me into moments that feel impossible to forget. Climbing the Torres del Paine in the dead of winter was one of them — ice tearing at my face, wind trying to push me off the mountain, and my shaking between fear and euphoria as I kept going anyway. 🏔️❄️

Also, there were the two World Youth Days — Spain and Lisbon 2023 — where I found myself swallowed by oceans of people, music and intensity. Standing in those crowds felt like plugging into a global heartbeat, raw and electrifying. ❤️‍🔥

And I’ve lived the quieter risks too: hanging in a hammock 300 meters above the Cañón del Río Magdalena, suspended between sky and earth; or throwing myself into a massive Copacabana cleanup, where adventure meant action, not just adrenaline. ♻️🌄

Each of these moments — harsh, hopeful, dizzying, transformative — What will be the next one? I would love to discover it 🧭

Teach, Learn, Share

I love teaching through experiences — whether it’s showing someone how to frame a powerful photography, guiding them through a simple Colombian dish that tastes like home, or sharing the joy of dancing without fear or perfection. I used to be a terrible dancer, but now it’s one of my favorite ways to connect with people; if you’re up for it, I’ll happily lead you through a few steps or learn yours. 🕺🔥

What I love most is learning in motion. I’m a restless learner — I absorb new skills like fuel: new recipes, a farming technique, a craft I’ve never tried, a tradition I didn’t know existed, new skills, new ways of seeing a place. I learn best by doing, tasting, building, failing, laughing, and trying again. 💪

Share whatever you carry with me: my experience as a psychologist when conversations get deep will open my heart and soul to give you the support you need, with all what I have. A good eye for storytelling when we’re creating something together, my willingness to help with chores or community projects, and yes — even the relaxing massages travelers keep thanking me for (offered only when requested). 🤲✨

Most of all, I share my energy. Whether we’re cooking, dancing, exploring hidden corners of your city, or talking until the night goes quiet, I’m here to make every exchange real, warm and meaningful.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’m the kind of guest who makes hosting easy — someone who blends into the rhythm of your home with respect, warmth, and genuine curiosity. I adapt fast, stay organized, and bring a calm, positive energy that lifts the space rather than filling it. 😊

What I share goes beyond skills: it’s presence. I love exploring your city through your eyes, discovering its secret corners, helping with whatever needs doing, and building the kind of connection that feels natural, not forced.

I’m also happy to offer small moments that make the stay memorable — a simple Colombian dish, a good conversation, a night walk, a shared laugh, or capturing a great photo of a place you love. 📸

More than anything, I share a sense of adventure and appreciation. If you open your door, I’ll make sure the experience feels light, meaningful, and worth remembering for both of us.
