About Me

Hello hello!

A consummate rolling stone, I love to experiment and tend to follow my curiosity wherever it leads. I believe that courage is a muscle, and that the best version of ourselves often lies just outside of what we find familiar and comfortable. Over the last decade I spent a lot of time working in hospitality and hostels in the US and around the world, jobs which allowed me to pursue my passions of writing and travel. I’ve visited 20 countries, and have had over 200 roommates from 40 different countries.

I'd call myself an extroverted introvert--I'm very outgoing, gregarious and social, but at the same time I really savor my solitude. I'm a very laid-back and easygoing person in general, and I'll be extremely respectful of house rules and wishes of any host. Looking to enjoy myself and have a good time, and I'd love to share some beautiful memories and experiences!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Nothing makes me feel more exhilarated or alive than traveling. While CS is a wonderfully cheap way to travel, I'm also looking to make new friends while doing so. I love staying in hostels too, but there's nothing like staying with a local to really enhance your experience of a new place. I'm eager to understand the culture and people e I of every place I visit, and love the element of cultural exchange and human connection inherent in CS.

Interests

Huge fan of the written word--I love reading good literature, and enjoy writing as well. Poetry, music, photography. Neruda and Rumi are personal favorites.

I love cooking and would be more than happy to contribute any way I can in the kitchen.

Drawing/sketching are favorite pastimes, amateur watercolorist as well. Art journaling is fun too, when I have the courage to stop being a perfectionist :)

I love thrift store shopping, and if there are any cool vintage shops in the area we can have ourselves a thrifting ball.

I'm an avid lover of the Great Outdoors as well, hiking is a favorite pastime of mine. Had my first foray into organic farming last year, and love to help with gardening.

Graffiti really interests me in my travels, of which I take lots of pictures--I view it as a sort of anthropological study.

Good conversation is a particular delight. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm kind of all across the board musically, but my favorite umbrella genres are probably indie rock, classic rock (60s and 70s), any sort of folk music. I also dabble in funk, motown/duop, old school hip hop, new wave, and 90s alt grunge. Love Jazz (Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock) and classical music too! I enjoy pretty much anything aside from hardcore punk/metal (the screaming makes me tense!).

To be honest, I don't watch that many movies. But I do love pretty much anything Studio Ghibli puts out. I like indie darlings as well, like Frances Ha and Adventureland. V for Vendetta (yusssss.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

(Some of my favorite things) Sung Evensong in Canterbury Cathedral! And a mass in Westminster Abbey, and in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. Went to the Batalla de Vino in Haro, Spain, and the Running of the Bulls in San Fermin. Swang at the edge of the world in Baños, Ecuador, then hitchhiked down the hill back into town. Attended a Punjabi wedding!
