Overview
About Me
Father of four amazing launched adults, I'm now an empty nester who travels worldwide quite often, and largely with my kids. I'm a mostly retired health care first responder.
I ski all winter long out west, hike in the good weather, swim for recreation and read a lot. I love to cook and share food; travel is all about genuine experiences and I’m interested in community and making connections. I mostly travel alone but usually end up finding interesting people to hang out with.
My kids call me "Vacation Dad", and suggested I try this app to find more like minded people. I'm unlikely to stay on your sofa, but my home is very secure and welcoming, and all my kids have flown away. I even have a private one bedroom apartment that is currently listed.
If you’re planning a visit here, hit me up! I can help you maximize your time based on your goals and how long you’ll be staying. I am across the street from the Darwin Martin house (famous Frank Lloyd Wright building) and know all kinds of local hidden gems. I recommend at least 3 nights here, especially in the summer. There is tons to do!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Mostly I'm here to meet people, and possibly host some travelers. My kids have traveled a lot and they've always found interesting and friendly people. I love to share my cool city and tell people all the hacks for being a visitor here.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love 80s music and ski to SKA. Love the old airplane movies and Rodney Dangerfield of course! I read a lot of nonfiction but my favorite book of all time is Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've skied the Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix (google this if you're a skier!)
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach people all about the history of Western New York, Niagara Falls, the Erie Canal and the history of the region. I can teach you how to cook, how to juggle, how to travel on a shoestring and have the best possible time!
Not a day goes by that I don't learn! Love to learn about people, communities, history. I love learning local cooking, and I love going to tiny local museums. I read constantly.
I can share my city, my home, my love of cooking and of course adventure.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Good conversation, good food, books. Certainly I have years of amazing travel hacks!
