About Me

CURRENT MISSION

meet people whose perceptions and experiences exceed my own ... or just have some really good stories to share

ABOUT ME

they need a Shower Surfing module/subsidiary to CS! i'm always hitting ppl up for showers when i want to hang out in a city w/o driving home.

of course there are plenty of freely accessible jacuzzis, pools, rivers, and lakes the world over. but then you dont get to see what hair products everyone uses :)

somewhere in the above is a deep, metaphysical, subtle yet piercing metaphor disclosing all about me. if you find it, pls tell me.

PHILOSOPHY

this begs but an endless series of missives. rather, i would like to know what philosophy is there that is not "personal" such that pleads CS to distinctly ask for our "personal philosophy?" commercial? public? are our philosophies community property of some sort which we have no individual claim to?

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

depends entirely on the others involved.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

met some rich souls; havent needed to warm any couches yet.

Interests

sadly, few of us can limit ourselves to a list short enough to list. i used think it was an attribute. now i know tis more a burden than a benevolence. one interest/hobby is answering inane, mundane, cliche questions with the irreverence they merit. big surprise!

but i can share an entirely different, certainly more useful list, namely, my tx cities things to indulge in list:

AUS
-TCs on wed or mon nite. check it out on yelp. its a byob blues/funk dive bar where they feed you!!! but sadly i think its gone now. you missed out!
-cathedral of junk (beyond words, beyond expectations).
-barton springs but after 2100 or b4 0900 so its free (unless you like sun).
-bunch of stuff on soco (south congress, south 1st, south 5th, south lamar ... south! get the trend?).
-see the bats fly at sunset on congress st bridge.
-bouldin st coffeeshop for ppl watching/meeting.
-spiderhouse cafe for same.
-anything any night/day at ruta maya (music, yoga, tai chi, art, chill, etc rutamaya.net) esp open mic tues nites. sadly this too has gone the way of the dodo.
-home slice pizza on soco.
-anything the austin CS grp is doing = fun. check the threads. see dodo reference.
-hai ky = great thai/vietnamese food on se side.
-blackswanyoga = donation only yoga studio (how can you pass on this? try the thai massage class). commercialized ego bs now (like burning man).
-any of the nearby natural getaways (hamilton pool, krause springs, enchanted rock, etc).
-funky 2nd hand shop on soco called st vincent de paul.
-taco trailer park any evening (cheap, tasty food + byob + great hang out/chill place).
-continental club upstairs has great free shows + ping pong table! def chk out ephrem owens on tue, dude even yells at the crowd when it gets too loud for the music. only in austin, baby.
-e 7th st bars (shangri la, diplomat, etc - true aus crowd, very chill, some even have couches!).
-kayak the lake westward, past the fork in the lake, taking the path not necessarily lesser traveled, but the lesser traveled by you.
-chicken shit bingo on sundays at ginny's bar, another great little laid back byob dive bar but on the west side ... and who else has chicken shit anything?! (its more like chicken shit lotto than bingo though.)
-mckinney falls which is almost in city camping/waterfall/swimming hole!
-yellow bike project (learn to work on bikes for free! even earn your own bike by doing so!!).
-just cycle everywhere and get fucking lost.

and, far far more. not to mention music everywhere, every night practically!

DFW
-king spa. it is god. yelp it. get groupon from local csers.
-grocery discount clearance store. stock up for your rd trip!
-1st tues films at uucoc.
-3rd fri late night art district block parties.
-chat room bar.
-kalachundjis or however the hell u spell it. temple beside it is a trip.
-late nite korean joint w/ open kitchen till 0300 near king spa.
-kasbah grill esp if u r on layover @ DFW.
-SMU always has great stuff during the school yr. music, theatre, opera cheap. every thu = free vegan dinner bhakti yoga group.
-speaking of yoga, karmany yoga, yoga underground (tops) @ tsada yoga, gaia flow yoga, on & on.
-cosmic cafe is ok but if u want the real deal go to taj chaat house.
-deep ellum, rahr, franconia breweries have great "tours" aka ways to drink good stuff on the cheap & meet ppl.

HOU
-valhallaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
-rothko chapel.
-st arnolds brewery.
-menil museum.
-antidote.
-the heights area.

Music, Movies & Books

i watch, i listen, i read. 3 out of 3, yet i dont feel so distinguished for scoring so highly.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

being saved by an Irishman from certain doom as the misty "tablecloth" rolled upon and over us over table mtn (south africa), lurking into the wee hours of the night and across a distant border taking with us our freedom and relief, shaken awake by police in an argentine hospital spewing questions in spanish all the while wondering what are they asking me, where are some of my teeth, and why are they operating on some guy in the same room as me?

Teach, Learn, Share

i can teach you that the only thing worth learning is the benefit of sharing moments with souls who harbour likewise disposition.
