About Me

We're an international couple... one from Ireland and one from Texas. We live in the Montrose area (best part of Houston!) there is so much to do within walking distance.

We can tell you about lots of hidden gems and must see/do things in Houston and we love showing people our favorite places that you won't read on your typical tourist to do list. If we're free, maybe even give you an open top view of the city.

Museums within 2 miles (in no order):
The Menill Collection, Rothko Chapel, Contemporary Arts Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Natural Science, Station Museum of Contemporary Art, Buffalo Soldier National Museum, Houston Center for Photography, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Houston Museum of African American Culture, Lawndale Art Center, Holocaust Museum Houston, The Health Museum, Children's Museum of Houston. I'm sure I am missing a lot more!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I was forced to join CS nearly 2 decades ago (a few years after it originally started) by some like-minded friends who had already been members and traveling the world. While visiting them in NYC back in 2005 and it's been an amazing journey ever since!

In early 2008 I started hosting a monthly CS happy hour to meet more like-minded people and to start getting a few references as I was also planning a trip to Europe. I continued setting up local monthly meetups on CS for about 15 years with the goal to never repeat a location (easier than it sounds). Sometime in 2023 I decided to "retire" from hosting the events and let others continue on. Now it's nice to be the participant!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

All have been great! We've met some of the nicest people from different parts of the world by welcoming them into our home along with surfing with some wonderful people in Stuttgart, Amsterdam and here in the U.S.

We love meeting and making new friends from all over the world!

Music, Movies, and Books

movies: Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Beast of the Southern Wild, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Garden State, Memento, Donnie Darko, Swingers, Shawshank Redemption, Electric Apricot - Quest for Festeroo, and lots more...

music: I love music... Anything to do with Les Claypool(Primus, Sausage, Oysterhead, C2B3, Frog Brigade, Holy Mackerel, etc...), ska, punk, country, bluegrass, funk, folk, etc... I'm very diverse in my music and I love live music! If there is a show you want to see, I'll probably join you...

books (him): "South of the Pumphouse" by Les Claypool, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S. Thompson, and pretty much anything else by Hunter S. Thompson... other than that, I should probably make more time for reading.

books (her): Way to many to choose from... if you're into non-fiction I can make some recommendations.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watching the sun set while floating through the sky in a parachute.

We once created our own Couch Crash weekend and hosted 24 surfers at once (26 if you count the two of us).

I've gotten close enough to touch an 8 foot alligator in the wild (but didn't).

Every day is an adventure!

Teach, Learn, Share

I could probably teach you to juggle... and maybe a little poi and how to solve a Rubik's Cube.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Curaçao, Czech Republic, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, Saint Martin (French part), Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
