About Me

Hey, I'm Nash! I'm currently a Peace Corps volunteer in Georgia (the one that can't quite decide whether it'sin Asia or Europe). I teach English to Georgian kids, and do a couple projects on the side.

Here's me: https://www.facebook.com/nash.mahoney

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing to meet new people while traveling! I'm sure that sounds generic, but I think most people who couchsurf are just genuinely happy when meeting interesting new friends. I definitely am.

Interests

I love learning languages, especially with others.

I read a ton - this summer, with nothing much to do, I think I read about 20 books.

I am at home in the water! Ocean, lake, or river, I love to swim and I used to play water polo.

Cooking, although I don't do it as much as I used to, as I'm living with an overbearing, but lovely, host family here.

I'm learning how to program in Python. Hssssss.

Food is... probably my favorite thing. As long as beer counts as food too. My favorites: Indian, Thai, Mexican

I like drawing fictional maps, but I'm not super good at it.

I play video games, but not as much as I used to in high school.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Folk, Indie, Hip-Hop, Classic Rock, music whose genre names I don't know. I love the music of my new home - Georgia. My favorite artist is Ezra Furman and the Harpoons.

Movies - Movies that make me really sad, really happy, or fill me with wonder. Preferably all 3. Thrillers, horror, dramas, movies that feature revenge. A cool idea is just as valid a reason to love a movie as a perfect execution of an idea.

Books - Fantasy, Sci-Fi, depressing novels, trying to read more classics. Micro-history (eg Salt).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For me, it was pretty amazing to drop everything and move away for 2 years. It's been a hell of a ride so far and I'm not halfway through.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach: English, Georgian (not as well), card games, computer building, how to tread water, drumming

I would like to learn: anything you can teach me! But currently I'm especially interested in: guitar, cycling, something to occupy my hands (knitting or something like that), new board/card/word/drinking games

Share: stories, jokes, fears, experiences, recommendations

What I Can Share with Hosts

Weird, didn't the last section ask for this?

I can teach you how to do a great many things in a very mediocre way. But I think that's more interesting than being an expert in one thing.
