DISCLAIMER: Amsterdam has a reputation. If you're here to indulge solely in a slew of drugs, prostitutes and debauchery you should book a hostel. There are several incredibly cheap options for accommodation in the heart of the city centre and you'll have a much better time there if that's what you're looking for.
We support our city's sex workers and embrace Holland's drug policy but there is much much more to our beautiful city than hookers and blow. If you'd like to experience what Amsterdam has to offer outside the tourist traps and red light gawking then we'd love to have you!
Whew! Now with that out of the way! We're two fun Texans in Amsterdam! Our Dutch is bad, cooking is good and sanity is questionable. We both love indulging in some tasty local brews, rocking out at a local band's show and just wandering Amsterdam's endless canals.
I'm an unrepentant film geek at heart who enjoys long camping trips, drunk cooking, and globe-traipsing just cause. I'm hilarious in a dry, dark way and exciting in a "hey let's jump in the car and drive across the continent because we can" kind of way.
My girlfriend Alisa is a friendly gal with a exuberant and bubbly personality lurking beneath a thin layer of social etiquette. She enjoys museum exploring, puppy petting and egging on drinking games into dangerous territory. She possesses an innate ability to wake the dead with her joyous cackle and a trustworthy ear in a "hey I just met you and this is crazy, but here are all my issues so be my friend maybe?" kind of way.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
The number of incredible life-long friends I have made through my travels or this website is priceless.
The southern hospitality in me gets a kick out of hosting and taking an active interest in showing my guests around the city.
The cheapass in me enjoys crashing on your couch like a bum and winning your heart.

Music, Movies, and Books
Picture the usual film snob list consisting of 75% artsy fartsy flicks and 25% guilty pleasure movies and you're probably spot on
In Bruges, Blue Valentine, M, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, Gone Baby Gone, Yojimbo, Bronson, Dr. Strangelove, A Single Man, The Graduate, Groundhog Day, Children of Men, Midnight In Paris
Coming from Austin, a major music city and just by the nature of my job my music tastes tend to lean towards the local, the obscure and the exciting.
Girl Band, The OBGMs, Otis The Destroyer, Feral Future, Leopold & His Fiction, Fufanu, Foreign Mothers, Crooked Bangs, Purple, Roger Sellers... this list could go on and on
Current reading stack consists of Jonathan Ames, Jennifer Egan, Jack London and William S. Burroughs
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Spent two weeks driving highway 1 and camping Big Sur solo.
Solo hiked across all of Iceland for 3 months.
Teach, Learn, Share
If you surf with me you are pretty much guaranteed to be subjected to at least one useless movie trivia fact, shown the must sees and hidden secrets of the city, and maybe an impromptu trip to somewhere cool outside the city limits.
