About Me

I am hosting again! My home is centrally located in downtown Puerto de la Cruz: the bus station, the central square (Plaza del Charco) and Playa Jardin beaches are all within a short walking distance. The location is particularly convenient for those who travel by buses. No problems if you arrive late in the evening or if you have to leave early in the morning.

There are direct buses to both airports (but much more frequently to the north one). Also, there are frequent connections to Santa Cruz and to many places in the northern part of the island, less frequently to the south and west, and one bus a day to Teide (see "my home" page for more details).

My home is small and hence it is easiest to host just one guest at the time but occasionally I can host 2 or even 3 guests for a 2-3 nights. Both the mezzanine and the sofa that I have for guests are a bit short so guests shorter than 180 cm are preferred.

Last minute requests are fine and you don't need to make an effort to make it very personal. Just tell when you come, for how many nights and if you travel alone or with someone. Pets are welcome! If you are sending the request early, maybe you can tell a little what you are planning to do while staying on the island (a copy-paste of what you send to other hosts too is fine). However, I don't always know my schedule for long time in advance and may hence respond "maybe" if you ask early. In any case, please send a request and not a message if you want to get hosted.

I like independent guests who come in the evening and leave in the morning, and use the daytime to explore the island. We can then change experiences over a cup of tea or a glass of beer or wine in the evening, maybe have a dinner together. Sometimes, however, it is also nice to have guests who want some activity with the host (beach, swimming in natural pools, an easy hike or a city walk, renting a car, or whatever).

I am flexible with changes. I have hosted a lot and I am used to guests changing plans even last minute. So if you need to cancel or change your dates it isn't usually any problem for me (if the new dates just fit in my schedule). What I don't like, however, when the guests don't communicate properly: changing plans is completely fine but please keep me updated.

From my side, I try to stick to what I have agreed as I understand that it is often difficult for a someone travelling if their host cancels in last minute. This far, after hosting hundreds of couchsurfers, it has happened only twice that I have had to cancel, both times because I fell sick. Luckily that doesn't happen often. To avoid need to cancel, however, I often don't accept requests very early before the arrival date.

I am Christian (Lutheran) but guests can be of any denomination or religion or of none at all. I will not proselytise and I hope that you will neither.

LGBTQ (or any other letter) people welcome: I may not always be up to date with all the vocabulary but I am friendly to everybody.

I particularly enjoy hosting couchsurfers who have not travelled a lot yet because they often have more fresh views of Tenerife than those more experienced travellers who find the island rather boring after all the exotic places that they have been to (they don't say it but I can see it). However, those seasoned travellers who also host can be considered an exception because sometimes it is nice to change some experience with other hosts.

In the summer I usually host guests at my equally small home in Helsinki, Finland.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I mostly host. Particularly I like returning guests. Hence, if you have stayed with me before and we left positive references to each other, you are most welcome again.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have hosted 400+ guests, mostly here on CouchSurfing.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you get hosted by me you might end up in my Instagram @nlipsane. I use it mostly as a guestbook to remember whom I have hosted or met. I hope that you don't mind.

Tea is always available, and maybe something with it. We can cook together, if you wish (but I am not very good cook myself. There are also a plenty of restaurants for different budgets nearby.

If we cook together, I eat almost anything but not mushrooms nor mustard. Also, I don't like very cheesy foods nor ketchup. I eat meat but not every day, and I am particularly happy meeting couchsurfers who can cook delicious vegetarian/vegan dishes.

I can share wi-fi from my phone, if you need.

If you want to rent a car but are too afraid to drive the narrow mountain road and busy highways of Tenerife, you can add me as a second driver and I can drive you wherever you want on the island (I have had guests who have been terrified about the traffic here), or if you got your driving license so recently that they won't rent one to you. But please note that you usually have to book in advance as demand for rental cars is high.
