Hello beautiful souls!
Telling our name is the proper way to start telling our story and I am quite proud of mine.
My name is Nora (نور , Noor), which in arabic means "light", "a feeling of satisfaction and happiness" and it describes exactly what I feel when I am exploring wonderful places, dancing, meeting many different people and hearing their OWN story. Each day I try to personify the meaning of my name, spreading light and empowering the one of every individual I encounter in my life path.
I do not like very much the question "where are you from" since I'd prefer to consider myself as a citizen of the world whose mindset is certainly "broader than a border". Plus my nationality would not give you an appropriate image of who I am but maybe my passions and interests could help you more.
Currently, I am at the end of my gap year and I am going to start a degree at University College London, in London of course. I am going to study a mix of Arts and Sciences with the ambition of using different kinds of art forms as a means to protest and document what is daily happening in our world and society.
My incessant hunger for knowledge and desire to ask questions may lead me to a career as a journalist/activist but I am still not sure. Who knows the future, right?
Speaking of art, I am a real art lover especially of street art as it is so genuine and raw. When I am travelling abroad I always look for the best spots to contemplate graffiti and murales.
Another great passion of mine is dance. When I dance is the moment I feel like I really own my body, I am aware of the space that lies around me and I abandon myself to the music, being happy and free.
Last but not least, travelling plays an important role in my life. Nothing can be comparable to the feeling of connection to the Earth you experience when you wonder around a temple in Cambodia, the Sahara Desert or the streets of a place that is 324736579 km away from home. That sensation of carefreeness, joy and fulfilment confirms the fact that life really is worth living.
"To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life." (from the movie "The secret life of Walter Mitty").

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My passion of travelling and collecting inspirational stories from human beings all over the planet made me suscribe to this website. In these times of hatred, xenophobia, homophobia and racism, meeting people from different backgrounds and hearing their stories is the only way we can feel more connected to each other, living all united as one. As a child, growing up with immigrant parents made me understand that once you have crossed political borders, you also have to deal with cultural barriers, created to divide us. I want to fight against those walls of hate and prejudice and open up my heart to the world outside because we are all sharing this amazing journey of life together.

Music, Movies, and Books

I literally listen to any kind of music but I really love the so-called "black music" (hip hop, reggae, soul, r&b, latino, rumba cubana, brazilian music etc.) which is a genre that really makes my bum move on the dance floor hahah
Cinema is an amazing art form and some of my favourite directors are: Quentin Tarantino, Wes Anderson, Martin Scorsese and Tim Burton.
As regards books, I am currently reading Frantz Fanon's "Black skin, white masks" which explores the psychological and historical condition of the black man. But I also enjoy "softer" readings and diving into the magic of poetry and slam poetry.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Scientists estimate the probability of my being born at about one in 400 trillion, so that's pretty incredible, isn't it?

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer my brightest smile and a lot of laughs. We can jam together to our favourite songs, sharing our experiences and having a good time with some delicious food. Still learning how to be a great cook but a bowl of pasta is enough to make our bellies happy and full haha
Also, I would be happy to practise different languages like english, italian and spanish with other people willing to improve their skills.
