Both hosting and surfing. I'm Couchsurfer since 2009.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
CS experience - see below. Apart from that I have a big experience of finding "couch" without help of CS (or any other) site. I did it dozens of times in different countries.

Philosophy, metaphysics, ontology, Russian philosophy, apophatic theology and anthropology, theosis, Russia (I've been there more then 20 times) and its culture, former USSR countries, Africa, Arab countries, India, Far North and its emptiness, The Arctic, universe, cosmology, deserts, literature, imagination, art, past, things that are gone, industrial zones, dead cities, hard-to-reach places, goats and camels, space and time, madness, myths, nothingness, poetry...

Music, Movies, and Books
Reading, writing and travelling is the same experience.
I'm addicted to reading. I would like to live many times to read all what I'd like to. Life is too short. One life is too little.
I read a lot of philosophical works and literature. For example: Andrei Platonov, Andrzej Stasiuk, Thomas Bernhard, Imre Kertesz, Jacques Derrida, Martin Heidegger...
I also wrote and translated a few books.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Missing a plane from northern Norway to the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard (Spitsbergen) and getting a new ticket for free :) (2001)
Going by train from Poland to China and back: about 28000 km (2004).
Crossing whole Russia in single trip - from Chukotka to Chechnya (2010).
Travelling a lot by hitchhiking: to Africa, to Eastern Kazakhstan, to Siberia, to Iraq...
Hitchhiking in winter to very remote regions of Siberia and Russian Far East: from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Koryak Autonomous Okrug in northern Kamchatka; from Krasnoyarsk to Evenk Autonomous Okrug in northern Siberia. There are no permanent roads and it is possible to get there by land only in winter. Once the temperature was -35C and I had to wait on the road for a car couple of hours, but it was fine :)
Whole Russia is amazing. I visited (not on transit!) 74 of 87 Russian oblasts:
