hello everyone. my name's michael.

i've lived in japan for most of the last 5 years and been just about everywhere. i've got a lot of stories, thoughts, and hobbies, and i'd like to hear yours!

i'm usually happiest when i'm meeting new people, exploring the places around me by bike or hike, and trying new things. i'm really into coffee, music, dota, video/photography, running, writing, movies, fantasy, politics/religion/philosophy, nature and exploring, language (especially japanese and chinese). i'd be happy to talk about anything with you.

i like things out if the ordinary, but with the right mindset the ordinary is just as good. that's probably my favorite thing. appreciating ordinary things with someone who can see the interest inherent in everything.

for hosting, i mostly only host people i think i want to become friends with, so if you're just looking for a free place to stay i probably don't have the time for that.
