I prefer not to host for only one night (especially with a late arrival) as there is work in arranging the flat and in managing arrivals and departures, social interaction is not really possible, and you cannot see much of London in half a day ie I do not want to be just a free stopover hotel.

I do not encourage serial couchsurfers to use my home as a free substitute for a home base or other own accommodation for the purpose of performing substantial paid work.

If you are paying to stay at a hostel, you MAY get away with arriving or departing in the middle of the night. If you are staying in someone's house for free, it is generally not polite to do so. Please arrange to arrive and depart between 8am and 1am unless otherwise agreed Please take into account the location of the airport/ other arrival point in the city and the location of the apartment (and how you might get from one to the other) when arranging travel and accommodation, or stay close to the airport. It is also appreciated if you estimate and advise AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE ARRIVAL approximate time of arrival (with flight number if relevant) without the host having to ask as hosts do not sit 24/7 behind a reception desk and have to make their own arrangements. Yes, this does involve planning beyond the end of your nose, but it is surely a small price to pay!
