About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I took early retirement from an exciting and successful career in education, and now I spend most of the year traveling around the world. I'm currently artist in residence with the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

ABOUT ME

I can only host during summer months when I come back to London, but this period can be a little busy if I'm around. love meeting new people, and also love showing off my wonderful city (it really is the very best city in the world!). I'm always interested in cultural activities, and love visiting museums, theatre, exhibitions. Amateur chess enthusiast, artist, musician...

PHILOSOPHY

Lefty, liberal, aesthete (probably Lord Byron from another life.)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Have surfed in the USA and had a fantastic experience, but prefer to host I guess. I live in central London so love showing people around. Particularly interested in art and theatre, and member of lots of organisations. Drop me a line if you want to meet for coffee, or trip to an exhibition.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I began by a proxy experience in that my friend Keith is an experienced CS'er, and I've met and taken many of his guests around London. He recommended me, and has met some thoroughly nice people.

Interests

I like to go meet friends, theatre especially, love exhibitions, music events - bit of a cultural junkie in this regard :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many to list, although Lonesome Dove, The Wind Up Bird Chronicles, And Quiet Flows the Don are favourite books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The southern cross from an Australian desert; Lenin's Tomb in Moscow (pre-perestroika Russia); Check-point Charlie in Berlin before the wall came down. Met HRH Prince Charles, and Princess Anne, Bishop Desmond Tutu. Camping in the Sahara desert watching shooting stars. Uluhuru (Ayers Rock) at sunrise on a camel. Performed in the Royal Albert Hall. Met Van Morrison, David Hockney, Paul McCartney, amongst others...
Climbed Mount Sinai and visited the Burning bush at St Katherine Monastery.

Teach, Learn, Share

All who have something to offer with an open mind and open heart.
