ABOUT ME

I consider myself both too serious and maybe somewhat crazy too. Almost 30 yrs married to Susanne ( from Wuppertal, Germany ) and a father of 4 children and a nice team of grandchildren. Working life : 3 multinationals chemical industry, all in marketing and technical sales management. Took a very early retirement as a kind of "reset"in life.
Susanne too did work for multinationals as amongst others marketing manager in industrial fragrance industry and resigned in late 2004 when we decided to start our new activity in Italy.
Since 2005 we do live in Italy where we manage renting our holiday apartments.

We both have travelled a lot to many European and North and; South American and myself Asian countries both for work and holidays. We have always enjoyed dealing with a wide spread different of cultures.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Susanne and I are open minded and curious. We love to meet and greet people to share an interest of different cultures and when over at our place that can be over a glass of Italian wine like our local Verdicchio or Rosso Piceno or hiking together in our Marche.
As a host I like to show my love for the italian kitchen, history, culture and bring our guests in contact with the beauty of our rather unknown part of Italy : Le Marche. This region with almost 180 km coastline of the Adriatic sea starts below Rimini and by car approx 2 hours south of Bologna-Airport. Nearest airport is Ancona-Falconara.

VERY IMPORTANT ! IMPORTANTISIMO !
Due to our tourist business we can host couch-surfers ONLY outside the holiday high seasons June-August. Yet sometimes we may have time and availabilty early spring and late autumn too. Just ask and I'll reply.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We open our door for people who like to share their stories, knowledge, interests and feelings and have respect for mankind and environment. We like to do both normal and crazy things. Sports : Jogging, hiking and biking fits in well.

Interests

Jazz and Classical music, opera, singing ( we both have participated in both in Dutch and Italian choir ) , art, psychology, NLP ( coach) , soccer every now and then aswell downhill skiing .
Participating in theatre performances, travel to the less known areas in Italy and abroad to enjoy and get a first hand better understanding of other cultures, habits and religions . Due respect covers all.

Music, Movies, and Books

La meglio gioventu and Fawlty Towers I can ( in fact WE can ) enjoy watching 4, 5 ..... and more times over the last ten years. Films like Pane e Tulipani, Etre et Avoir, Moonstruck, Something's gotta give. Dances with wolves. Old Italian films with with Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni e.g " Ieri, oggi e domani". Watch " Il postino" and you get a nice poetic and romantic insight of Italy in the 60ties. Really not interested in fighting an killing movies as there is already too much of that on every day news when watching CNN, BBC or Italian TV.
Music:
Ray Charles, Dave Brubeck, Oscar Peterson, or many peformances of wellknown opera singers including "Paveroti and friends" , classical music by Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Italian or English pop like Queen, Beatles, etc do help me to really relax or just go on a sentimental journey.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

More than one but the one I recall most now was being afraid of heights at that time (due to taking then malaria profilaxe) when we were climbing the Waju Piju next to Maju Piju (in Peru) on a very nice early morning. It felt like a beautiful "nightmare"when descending same mountain again.

Teach, Learn, Share

learn from any person whatever age. susanne and myself have been fascinated learning to live and work with NLP and we have become NLP master coaches and hence using this we can help/coach individuals and groups.
Personally I like to do simple theater workshops with both adults and kids ( music and clown). Making theatre plays.
