About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Gone traveling! Sorry, I'm nowhere near Silver City at the moment...

ABOUT ME

Sitting in my desert yard, back against a log, playing bluegrass with friends in the setting sun, dogs running around, coyotes in the distance - pass the bottle, this is my perfect night.

PHILOSOPHY

An old Muslim man, working at a warehouse near Baton Rouge, used to say every time I came to pick up supplies: "It's a beautiful day in the land of the living!" If I could say it as naturally as he could I'd say it to everyone.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love to host people from all over the world... But at the moment we're traveling. I'm always up for coffee or a drink and recommending some camping spots in my favorite forests!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been hosting couchsurfers since 2007... What a great way to make friends!

Interests

Playing the banjo. Accordions. Reading. Mountains in the desert. Riding bikes. Swimming. Walking. Meditating. Listening to stories. Wolves. Anime. Eating any food from anywhere. Hip hop. The Simpsons. Fighting self-deception. Fighting the impulse to relax and grow soft.

Music, Movies, and Books

Edward Abbey, Farley Mowat, Barry Lopez, Haruki Murakami, Lao Tsu, George Bernard Shaw, Tom Robbins, Neil Gaiman, George R. R. Martin, Frank Herbert... Plus many random books on science and history. As for music - there's no way I could list everything I love here. Anything sublime, experimental, rhythmic, dissonant, old, new, smooth, wild, meditative, foot-tapping...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Driving a minivan with no working lights or windshield wipers through Hurricane Rita... Playing with wolves every morning in New Mexico... Riding horses in the Himalayas... Wrangling yaks... Sleeping in the sand on an island in the Chesapeake Bay... Laughing with friends!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some old fiddle tunes if we have a banjo laying around. We can go panning for gold, rock hunting, swimming, bike riding, or stay home with a six pack and make some tasty food... And I can fix those annoying problems with your website!
