Today I believe that "finding" oneself cannot be taken literally. I believe it is an inconclusive search that pays off when we are doing just that, searching. For me, to find oneself is to understand and accept oneself. The more true we are to ourselves and the more we embrace our lights and shadows the better we feel about who we are and how we are. In an age where social media sets a trend for what we should be or do. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and more, fill us with photos where a slight filter can make us look better or different. But in reality, being who we are is the best thing that could have happened to us. We are unique and unrepeatable. I really admire people who are just as they are without trying to fill the moulds imposed by society and are proud to show it - "Come as you are", be yourself is a little phrase that is not so easy to live by, but once we do, we take away the power of people making us feel bad about something we are not because we feel so good about who we are. Travelling has helped me understand the magic of being yourself. When you realise how incredible your identity is, your nationality, your accent, your skin colour, your flaws, your virtues, your height, your extra pounds, your moles, your tattoos, your laughter, all that makes us so special and unique. Authentic people are happy, because they love themselves as they are. So I can't say that by travelling I have discovered who I am, but I have learned to be more myself and feel comfortable with it. Come as you are.
