About Me

Hi! This is Rebecca but for now this profile describes my partner, Max; my puppy, Teega; and me because where I go, they're going!

I have spent many hours in front of a book (or computer screen) and am excited to explore the world in another way. I love stories and believe that in general, humans have good hearts.

Hey hey! Max jumping in here. So excited that in the times we live in meeting cool people all over the world is so easy...

When Rebecca and I decided to depart on this trip it was about a year ago -- Rebecca had just graduated from Ohio State, with me to follow 6th months later (me, Computer Science; Rebecca, English).

Being out of college is hard! Without a million people milling about with nothing to do but learn stuff yak about anything and everything life felt kinda dull. Rebecca had a cool job in an enormous book store, and I had a pretty decent gig going building mobile apps and websites. But Rebecca was thirsty for a change of scenery and I was tired of working remotely all by my lonesome. It felt like it had been years since I'd done anything that made a very good story - I hadn't done a study abroad trip or even taken a trip through my own country! I looked around and saw I was in a big ol bubble. My Facebook friends were annoying me, my real friends had run out of stories, and had run out of radiolab podcasts to rehash for Rebecca in our nightly walks with the dog.

I felt like running away on an epic journey. It wasn't hard to convince Rebecca (In fact, I had to get her to dial it back a bit - she would have done all of South and Central America too if we had a little more money). So here we are in your town! We would love to meet you, learn from you, and sleep on your couch or floor.

We've got a wild little puppy traveling with us who is a real happy little girl, who loves to cuddle, play fetch and sleep on your feet. She can also be a lot to handle at times - she jumps up when she's excited, barks at spherical objects, and is less than perfect with potty training. She's usually very good, and we will watch her very closely in your home to avoid incident but I want to be sure we give full disclosure if you choose to host us. If this worries you too much, she has a crate to stay in, and sleeps in her crate at night no matter what.

If you love dogs who are still a work in progress, and humans who are friendly, happy, empathetic, and good house guests you will have a lot of fun hanging out with Rebecca and Teega and me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We don't want to travel the world just the 3 of us: we want to meet new people and learn about the communities we're staying in. We also want to stretch our money as much as possible, so if we could offer our services and company instead - all the better!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: we both read a lot, Rebecca can't pick a favorite but has recently enjoyed Jane Steele, Harry Potter, A Game of Thrones, The God of Small Things, and others of all kinds (she recently worked in a bookstore)

Rebecca tends to watch TV shows such as The Office, Friends, Parks and Rec, etc. Max loves Breaking Bad more than anything.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rebecca spent a summer studying and traveling Europe (esp. Scandinavia) where she witnessed simple and splendid things such as gorgeous waterfalls, shakespeare's birthplace, seniors ballroom dancing in an irish pub (in Norway), the spot where vikings first participated in a democracy, snori sturlison's first "think tank," and the most scenic train ride in Europe.

Max spent some time in Belize and Guatamala, meeting the people there and exploring caves and ruins. He has also backpacked in several places around the country, most notably Glacier National Park.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teega has much to teach about play and cuddles. Rebecca might have some book reccomendations (I did work in a bookstore recently, after all) and Max...

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you haven't owned a puppy and have thought about it or plan to, Teega is great practice. She loves to play and makes things interesting. We are happy to wash dishes, do laundry, or other household chores. We are bad cooks, but could help around the kitchen where wanted!
