About Me

I'm originally from the United States, where my family still resides, and lived in Chicago for five years after college. During that time, I went to grad school and worked at a cupcake shop! Following grad school, I worked in real-estate marketing before deciding to quit my job and move abroad! I have no regrets as it's been one of the biggest adventures of my life, a great time of self-discovery....and just a whole lot of fun! I love to read, cook, travel, try new foods and am a huge pet-lover (so if you have a dog or cat, I'm already so excited to meet you!). I currently teach English as a second language to kids online.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My partner, Brian, and I are traveling together starting in November, focusing mainly on Central and South America and southeast Asia. We would love to meet new people along the way, find the best local spots and have a really authentic immersive experience. He speaks a bit of Spanish and I speak some French. We are super friendly, adventurous and open to new ideas, cultures and living situations. We have both traveled extensively, with me even living in China, Australia and New Zealand in the past! He is also from Chicago and we met through mutual friends and have now celebrated our second anniversary! Feel free to check out his profile (Brian Weaver) and add us on Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp to chat.

To be honest, I've used CS twice prior. The second time, I got my very best friend in the city from it. The first time wasn't the most positive experience, I think for either of us, due mostly to personality differences and expectations. With that said, I'm clean, friendly, and respectful of privacy and personal space. I am up for being social if my host is up for it but I'm also independent and low maintenance so please don't feel I need to be entertained. I would love suggestions on places to eat, drink, hike, explore, etc. if you have them though and would love your company if you'd like to give it! :)

Interests

Trying new foods, meeting new people, and travelling!

Before the 'world trip' we'll be starting in November of 2018, I've travelled to Ireland, Iceland, Vietnam, Cambodia, England, France, Thailand, Japan, S. Korea, Czech Republic, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Hungary, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Indonesia and the Dominican Republic.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read and usually gravitate towards murder mystery/forensic thrillers. I'm one of those people who filter for hostels based on whether or not they have a book swap! ;)

I don't watch a lot of TV so I probably can't hold a conversation on GoT but can binge watch a series on Netflix with the best of them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rode an elephant

Road-tripped from Denmark to Hungary

Moved to China, Australia and New Zealand!

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach English online to elementary age kids in mainly mainland China.

I also just got back from studying French in Montpellier, France for 6 weeks. @ me if you want a language buddy!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm easy going and like to laugh. I am clean and considerate and would love to make new friends out of this process.

Countries I’ve Lived In

Australia, China, New Zealand, United States
