Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have been active on couchsurfing sometime around 2008-2013 but then for a decade or so travelled a little differently. Now I have a stable life in Helsinki, my own home with a comfy couch and time to do more travelling. I hope the couchsurfing community still has something to offer for me in the 2020s!

Interests

I love music and dancing, those are definitely my lifeline. Also interested in any other forms of culture and arts. Meandering conversations ranging from space travel to philosophy to what's everyone's favorite fruit are also my jam.

In travelling I'm looking to get in touch of the rhythm and energy of a place, and hopefully interact with local residents. I'm happier to skip the tourist attractions for an underground party under a highway bridge.

Special interest in Lindy hop, solo jazz, blues and house dancing. Also swimming and learning how to surf! Only tried twice and haven't yet actually properly gotten on the board but still loved it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Any genre of music that touches my soul and/or ignites my body to move is my favorite. I have so many favorite tracks it's impossible to choose.

With books I'm looking for a story, a new perspective, the human experience distilled in skillful prose, or to learn something new. Be it fiction, nonfiction or poetry.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Worked a summer at a shrimp factory in Greenland and afterwards travelled for a week to a fjord to watch icebergs broken from the glacier float into the ocean.

Attended the second line of jazz funeral for a local rapper in New Orleans, dancing on the streets in his honor.
