About Me

Hi travellers, I'm Roland. Nice to meet you! Meeting people from all over the world is one of my passions.

My family and I live in Unterseen, next to the scenic town of Interlaken which is well-known for adventure sports, beautiful mountains and Swiss watches. 欢迎大家。

I work as a managing director of a local bank with a team of about 50 people. As Deputy CEO of my bank, I‘m responsible for the mortgages and loans division.

My wife Ursula and I, we have three kinda grown-up kids: Elias (1999) Joel (2000) and Simea (2003). Elias and Joël live in Lucerne and Thun, but sometimes spend the weekend here.

We have been living in Unterseen/Interlaken for more than 20 years and know the city and the surrounding area quite well. We like to share our knowledge with travellers. We also like all kinds of sports, so if you like hiking or running, or skiing (winter), or swimming (summer), just let us know.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meeting people from other countries and having a good, relaxed time. Staying with locals is probably the best way to explore a country.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I read the Bible. Other books that changed the way I think: Atomic Habits by James Clear, Why we sleep by Matthew Walker, The Case for a Creator by Lee Strobel. I also like reading biographies, novels by Ken Follett and Tom Clancy, and books about history or political/economic topics.

Movies and series: Ben Hur, Titanic, Pretty Woman :) Netflix series: Suits, The Crown, Designated Survivor, House of Cards, Crash Landing on You, Descendents of the Sun.

Music: I love the songs of Whitney Houston (especially "One moment in time"), Celine Dion, Brian Adams, Eros Ramazotti, Gotthard, Hillsong („What a Beautiful Name“), Na Ying, David Pfeffer („I‘m here“), and Cher. I also like piano music (Lang Lang). And some songs that touch my heart: Amy Grant: „Thy Word“ Adel Tawil: „Ist da jemand?“ Petra: „Creed“.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

(1) Ironman Triathlon Switzerland and Jungfrau-Marathon, (2) a four month trip in Asia in 2014 (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China, Hongkong, Mongolia, Russia), (3) Skydiving in California, (4) EMBA summer school in Rochester NY. (5) Setting up a charity for underprivileged girls in Southern India.

Teach, Learn, Share

(1) Never burn bridges. 🔥 (2) No matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine. ☀️ (3) Wear love wherever you go. ❤️ (4) 赠人玫瑰,手有余香。Give others a rose, and you will also enjoy the fragrance. 🌹😀 (5) Money doesn‘t make you rich. 💰 (6) Cultivate an attitude of gratitude 🌱 (7) HAPPY WIFE = HAPPY LIFE 🤷‍♂️ (8) Soli deo gloria ☝️🙏

Watch what you feed into your mind and heart.

„Choose your inner circle wisely and deliberately. You will encounter all sorts of people. Some will grow you, some will tear you down, some will watch you silently, some will lend you a helping hand, some will preach to you, some will be inspired by you, some will just use you or even humiliate you, some will tell you the road you are taking is too risky (they may even be right). Reflect and learn from all of them. Take the positive ones into your inner circle, the ones who dream with you, the ones who believe in you, the ones who offer practical help, the ones who are hands on.“

Learn the power of forgiveness and set yourself free in the process.

Practice empathy. Do to others what you would want them to do to you. Do it joyfully.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Great nature and sports. From here you can visit the glaciers of Jungfraujoch = Top of Europe (Europe's highest train station), or hike up Mount Harder in 1-2 hours. The area is also great for mountainbiking (MTBs available). We like to spend time with you, have Swiss Fondue or other local foods, learn about your country and more...
