About Me

https://www.facebook.com/TheAdventuresOfChuckManley

6 years ago I quit my job as an EMT, sold everything I owned, and set off to hitchhike around the United States. At the time it seemed like a good idea, and it ended being one of the most important things I've done to date.

Since then I've been traveling and living out of my backpack wherever I am. I've surfed officially and unofficially all over the world with people from all walks of life. I'm like a professional house guest with a resume to prove it.

I'm a laid back go with the flow kind of guy. I can be completely independent, or if invited, be the debonair of the dive bar. I respect my host's space, clean up after myself, and generally keep myself pretty tidy.

Some of my favorite things in life revolve around cooking food, playing with my camera, deep conversations, practicing serious beer snobbery, and raging until the sun comes up at all night dance parties.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

When I decided I wanted to travel the world, I found a post on a hitchhiking forum about CS. I joined the site and sat idle for a couple of months before learning about a local meetup not far from my house. I went to the meetup and heard about their stories and was hooked. 2 of those people I met back then are still in my life, along with hundreds of people I've been fortunate enough to meet through this community.

I love the cultural exchange I get from this site. It has opened my eyes to a new way of life. The hospitality exchange part has been secondary and only used to facilitate the former.

I've organized and attended hundreds of events around the world. From the 5 day Detroit Couch Crash I helped organize to the Holi festival in India that had CS members from 15 different countries!

Interests

photography, dance parties, pot lucks, reading, writing, talking

Music, Movies & Books

One Amazing Thing I've Done

I've hitchhiked in 5 countries, attended 7 rainbow gatherings, gone to Burning Man once, jumped out of a plane, lived under an avocado tree in Guatemala, spent 6 months in India, got certified in scuba diving, traveled on a veggie oil powered hippie bus, and have taken nearly 100,000 photos of it all.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love teaching photography. I can nerd out about it for days. But I can also teach about vegetarian cooking, marketing, mycology, and traveling.

I want to learn permaculture, php, wire wrapping, Spanish, photography, film, and anything that gets you excited.

I love sharing meals more than anything! And space :)

What I Can Share With Hosts

Stories, a delicious meal, and a positive experience.

I'm also down to do work exchange related to photography, videos, and digital marketing.

Countries I've Visited

Canada, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Mexico
