About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Currently I'm looking for ways to sink my feet further into the Middle East, the more unusual the way, the better..

PHILOSOPHY

Well, one aspect of it is that you should always aim to make decisions that make you proud of who you are.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment I'm traveling and so mainly surfing, but will be hosting when I get back to Sydney..

Interests

Words. New ones, unusual ones, oddly used ones. Unusual idioms, subtle meanings, original turns of phrase.. I like to aim to always use language in a new way, to see another one of its possibilities that we habitually eschew..

Also, Middle Eastern tea. Like, a lot. I think I'm developing a problem..

Music, Movies, and Books

For books, a couple that come to mind at the moment are Kundera's Eternal Lightness of Being, PJ O'Rouke's CEO of the Sofa, Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse 5, Conrad's Heart of Darkness, Nabokov's Lolita, Gibran's The Prophet, though studying literature at uni ruined fiction for me for a while.. I great non-fiction book that I read recently was Robert Baer's The Devil We Know, an close examination of Iranian geopolitical influence throughout the Middle East.

My favourite movie genre is Zombie films, because I find them hilarious, but some of my favourite films are Heat, Croupier, Chinatown, Donnie Darko, Eyes Wide Shut, The Constant Gardener, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Requiem for a Dream, Mulholland Drive and Unforgiven.

A well written TV series can be even better though - I love the Wire, the West Wing, Damages and Arrested Development especially.

As for music, my taste is all over the place, I'll listen to anything once, but I usually head towards either spacy vocals over a synth backing or some deplorably hipster indie bands. A couple that give me joy at the moment are Delphic, Temper Trap, Florence and the Machien and SMD.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Costa Rica, Iraq, Italy, Jordan, Peru, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
