Hi there! I'm a South African - Canadian elementary school teacher. I'm a traveler and a people person! I love being outside in the sunshine, meeting new people, and exploring and learning about new cultures. I live and work in beautiful North Vancouver -- Vancouver's nature-filled backyard that is just a quick commute to downtown. It's gorgeous here; you'll love it. Let's go for a hike! Or sushi and a beer?

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
To meet new, interesting people and have opportunities to explore! You always get a much better idea of what a place is really like by knowing some locals and following their advice.
Music, Movies, and Books
A sample of music: Sam Roberts Band, RHCP, Modest Mouse, Mother Mother, The Zolas, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Gin Wigmore, and more! Some fav movies / shows: Shaun of the Dead, Blood Diamond, Wall-e, Pulp Fiction, Westworld, Grey's Anatomy, The Office, The Big Bang Theory. Books / Authors: Harry Potter, GOT, Murakami, Ishiguro, and so many more :)
One Amazing Thing I've Done
While living in Japan I went to a fire festival in Cape Toi, Miyazaki, in which the main event had the local men swinging fireballs high into the air to try to have them land in a fireworks-filled basket atop a 30m pole. Us, the spectators, sitting around the pole did have to be aware of stray fireballs possibly coming at us!
Teach, Learn, Share
I lived in Japan for 3 years so am always willing to share about that to those interested or practice some terrible Japanese! I love games - cards, chess, scrabble, or whatever - and am always willing to teach or learn a new one. Also, I love making breakfast and have been known to make a pretty good veggie omlette ;)
What I Can Share With Hosts
A friendly, easy-going, independent couchsurfer who is happy to hang out and socialize or go and explore solo and find my own adventure :) I'm respectful of your place and things and will always clean up after myself. Always up for a game of some sort - cards, chess, scrabble, or whatever! I can teach you some games if you'd like! (^^)
My Interests
I'm really open-minded and willing to try most anything! I love traveling and learning about different cultures and history, meeting new people, trying local foods, etc. Everyone has a unique story and perspective to share :) In my own city I enjoy being out in nature hiking and enjoying the sunshine whenever possible. Summertime is for picnics at parks with a great book, hanging out at the beach, socializing at a friendly BBQ, finding new live music, and wandering around some of Vancouver's fun neighbourhoods enjoying happy hour on patios with friends.
