I think it's an amazing way to both travel cheap and meet locals!
Music, Movies, and Books
I love anything rock and metal produced in the 70's/80's (Metallica and Iron Maiden being my faves). Movies I lean more towards romantic comedies or just plan old make you die laughing movies. Books I love historical and fantasy, my faves being The Book Thief and Harry Potter.
