About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To grow as a person who can appreciate life for everything it is, good and bad, and enjoy it all the while!

ABOUT ME

I'm South African born, Australian raised, currently on a trip to Japan on my German passport (don't get too excited though, I'm not really German in any way other than on paper).

Although, this doesn't really tell you anything about who I am.

I'm a man of many interests, as you can read about below.

As a person rather than as a medical student (but also as a medical student) I think laughter is the best medicine and hence love joking around with friends - fun in general is pretty beneficial to one's wellbeing I think, and so like to have as much of it as possible!

By the way, I'll do my best to be an excellent couchsurfer so as to be absolutely no trouble at all!

Something you'll soon find out anyway: I quite like Japan!
Please excuse my poor Japanese, but for all of you who speak it out there, I'd like to leave a little message.

PHILOSOPHY

I try my best to treat everyone as I like to be treated (as corny as it sounds, with kindness and respect). I don't like judging others because I don't think it's fair, as you can't know the whole story.
Oh, and I place quite a bit of value on relationships - without my friends and family I know my life would be somewhat dull.

Interests

Well, I'm interested in almost anything actually - I always like learning something new or hearing a person's story. Other cultures and people really interest me, especially because it's always fun to realise that we're not so different deep down.

With the aforementioned comes a love of learning other languages! At the moment, Japanese is my most advanced but I'm constantly asking my international friends to teach me a word or two in their respective languages.

In terms of sports, tennis is definitely my favourite but I also have a long history of soccer and some basketball. I like trying almost any sport (especially interesting ones I haven't played before), otherwise I'll be happy to watch them on TV.

Music is also a passion of mine, as I grew up playing piano, played a bit of trombone in various bands at high school, and know one or two chords (but not much else) on the guitar.

Chatting, sightseeing, experiencing some nightlife, playing a game, anything new or even nothing at all - you name it and I'm probably happy to do it, but with whatever we do or don't do, I'd like to get to know a bit more about your culture but especially you!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For my sister's birthday a couple of years back, we were in South Africa so my father (quiet and reserved as he is) decided to do something special... take us all shark-diving (to my mother's despair). Despite knowing you are completely "safe" in the metal cage, with bars that all of a sudden seem too thin, you can't help but feel a little unnerved along with the spurt of adrenaline that accompanies those wide-open jaws rushing towards you. One of my most exciting experiences - sharks are quite amazing creatures!
Oh, and riding an elephant (which decided to go for a stroll on a nearby road) in Sri Lanka is something I recommend to anyone who enjoys a bit of fun!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you what I know about the human body, or help you practise English if you're learning. If you'd rather me teach you what little I know of Japanese, that's fine too, or if you like, I can even help you learn how to play tennis.

I'd like to learn about just about anything you have to share. I hope you don't mind if I ask too many questions.
