Overview
About Me
I’m a lifelong learner and creative living in Fairbanks, Alaska. My background is a bit of a mix—I started in film at Hampshire College, moved into Linguistics, and I'm currently pursuing an interdisciplinary PhD. I’ve spent the last decade working in learning innovation, but these days I'm focused on my research, my music, and being a dad to three daughters.
I function best at the intersection of technology and art. When I’m not deep in dissertation work, I’m usually producing music (specifically Melodic and Progressive House), tinkering with my 3D printers for my small design business, or exploring the outdoors.
I view life as a constant project of "iterative design"—whether that's renovating a home, mixing a perfect DJ set, or just figuring out the best way to visualize a complex dataset. I value authentic connections, good craft beer, and deep conversations about everything from Star Trek: TNG to the nuances of Japanese grammar.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I like to host because it allows to be generous to those who have taken the time and expense to visit our hometown. It also usually gives me the opportunity to indulge in travel dreams and to live vicariously through others' travel experiences. I've also made some great friends through hosting.
After nineteen years on CS, I still have only hosted! While my life has changed a lot since then (PhD, kids, career shifts), my love for travel and meeting people hasn't. I'm looking to connect with locals when I travel for music festivals and to offer a friendly face to travelers coming up to Fairbanks.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I recently traveled to Malta for the Anjunadeep Open Air festival. It was incredible to experience that specific culture and community on a global scale—dancing with thousands of people from different countries who all speak the same "musical language."
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: I can introduce you to the world of 3D printing (I run a small side business designing lithophanes and prints) or show you the basics of DJing and mixing tracks. I also have a background in Linguistics if you ever want to geek out over language structures.
Share: I love sharing a good craft beer (Alaska has an underrated scene!) or showing people the reality of life in the sub-arctic. If you're in Fairbanks, I can point you toward the best local spots that aren't total tourist traps.
Learn: I’m always looking for new music recommendations, tips on photography, or stories about how you navigate your corner of the world.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I’m an independent traveler who understands the value of personal space. I’m happy to share a bottle of wine or a meal, swap travel stories, and offer a perspective on life from the far north. Mostly, I bring good energy, respect for your home, and a genuine curiosity about your local area.
