CURRENT MISSION stay alive. write dissertation. watch the x files. enjoy life. ABOUT ME I grew up in a wood fire heated house on top of a hill on a dirt road with a lake view. I'm a huge nerd: sci-fi, roleplaying games, etc. In college I studied developmental and cognitive psychology and psychopathology. Then I decided to go to grad school to study literature. I'm still doing that. I've always liked snakes. I want a pair of ball pythons someday, but I don't have any now. My favorite sushi fish is saba (mackeral). I have very long hair- long enough that friends and strangers alike are surprised enough to comment on it from time to time. I was in a stage combat group in college (the Ring of Steel) and I still have a rapier in my house. I'm diabetic, so all the soda in my house is diet. But I still eat candy and cake and other things made entirely of sugar, I just take a lot of insulin to compensate. I shop for clothes and shoes almost exclusively at thrift stores.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING My couch is available! Actually, depending on the time, two couches are available, and one of them folds into a bed. I also often couchsurf when traveling to conferences. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE So far I've only surfed when traveling for academic conferences. I met some lovely people and enjoyed those experiences, but I wish I had more opportunity to travel just for adventure's sake.
Music, Movies, and Books
This would take me a solid year probably.
One Amazing Thing I've Done
I climbed Mt. Katahdin and walked the Knife's Edge when I was in high school. I think I posted a picture from that trip. I spent 30 days traveling alone in Japan one summer during college. It was an amazing experience.
Teach, Learn, Share
Well, I teach lower-level college writing and literature classes. Literary analysis is my job (I'm working on my dissertation) but I love to apply those skills to pop culture and nerdy stuff that's way outside the scope of my program. I can cook and bake some exciting things and I'm ok at gardening. I can mend clothes and change tires. I know lots of games. My partner is an electrohouse DJ, so if you're into EDM we can also let you know where all the parties are.
My Interests
books reading writing poetry fiction (deep breath) roleplaying games and general nerdery, music, stage combat, languages, social justice, ecology, local and sustainable food, a narrow and nerdy selection of TV shows
