Im Shreyas, an Indian-born Singaporean. Been living in this sunny island for over 15 years and apart from kindergarten, did all my schooling here.

Currently an Information Systems Undergraduate at the Singapore Management University

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE ON COUCHSURFING

I aim to meet new people and hopefully build contacts through both travelling and hosting. However, currently I'm unable to host due to lack of sufficient and proper extra accomodation in my house but I'm happy to meet up with anyone who winds up on this small and crowded island who's looking for a friend and a different side to Singapore than what generally meets the eye :)

Yet to host but have been hosted twice during my Europe Trip.

Interests

Im a techie and I like researching as well as playing around with gadgets (phones, tablets, computers).

Generally not into contact and team sports but I am a regular gymmer (Powerlifting).

I am also in the DJ and DMC club in university, spinning mostly progressive, deep and tropical house music.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - I Generally listen to a large variety of genres and english, spanish, tamil, and hindi languages.. favourites depend on my mood and what I'm currently doing at the time.

Movies - More towards action, comedy and "Old and Gold" Dramas (like The Godfather). More into TV Shows though, Comedies, Dramas and Action series, namely FRIENDS, Community, and Suits

Books - Not much of a bookworm but I prefer non fiction like Freakonomics and Snapshots from Hell, fiction wise more action like Tom Clancy. I also like comedy comics, big fan of Calvin and Hobbes (have the entire collection :D) and Garfield.. (With whom I share my birthday.. hehe fun fact)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well I was a combat Engineer for the most part of my Military Service, through which I learnt basic infanteering and demolition skills. My main job was operating heavy construction equipment to build and overcome obstacles.

My powerlifting PRs are generally pretty decent (above 100kg for squats and deadlifts) :D

Travelled Solo through 9 Cities in 6 Countries for a month in Western Europe.

DJed at Altimate, a club situated at the top of the tallest building in Singapore, for a post-examination party held by my university.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Well I'm an amateur at acoustic and electric guitar, and DSLR Photography. Could try teaching DJing if you had the proper hardware. Im also good at planning stuff? but thats more of a life skill rather than a talent.

Learn: Well, Im open to practically anything really, though I might struggle a bit to grasp the beauty of art and music (more of a left brain type :))

Share: Experience being brought up in an Indian household, Experience living in Singapore, Experience in the military, Experience travelling alone in another continent.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Well, having lived and grown up in Singapore for around 70% of my life, I can share about the melting pot of cultures and cuisines that is Singapore. I can describe life in this bustling city of 5.4 Million people. Having been born and raised in an Indian household, I can share a bit about India and my culture. However, having been raised in SG, and only going back only to visit, my knowledge might be a bit lacking.

Obviously once I have cleared up things at home, if you ever come to Singapore, you will have an enthusiastic host or at the very least a trustworthy friend to look up :)
