About Me

CURRENT MISSION
1. Fight the climate crisis! Working (way too much) at a carbon removal startup to enable and scale the high-durability, high-quality corner of the voluntary carbon market (read: pulling CO2 out of the air and shifting it to the longer carbon cycle).

2. Explore the world a little bit at a time (by foot, bicycle, train, or bus if possible). Meet awesome people along the way (and help them however I can!). Have unforgettable experiences. Simultaneously grow and satisfy my curiosity. Learn about other places, cultures, people, and share myself (and laughter! lots of it!) with others.

ABOUT ME
TL;DR: Adventurous spirit born and raised in Michigan, worked in tech in Oregon, met a German man in the Philippines, moved to southern Germany. Chemical engineer currently working in sales (eek) in carbon removal / climate tech. Loves: rock climbing, scuba diving, snowboarding, hiking, cycling, ultimate frisbee, playing music (piano, violin, ukulele), laughing, FOOD! Grew up competing in classical piano and swimming. Love people and great conversation, learning about other cultures and sharing experiences.

===
Hi!! I was born and raised in the American Midwest (the land of the friendly!), transplanted to the American Pacific Northwest (Portland, Oregon), transplanted yet again to southern Germany (Konstanz).

I was 2 years into traveling after quitting my corporate engineering job at Intel and was on a boat in the Philippines when I met a German man (well, I had met many German men by that point, but this one turned out to be special for me). Fast forward more adventures in the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Germany, Austria, and Australia - I moved to Germany recently and got married in Denmark. Currently working on exploring Europe!

I miss every bit of Oregon's beauty, delicious food, craft beer, weird quirks, awesome people, and great access to some of my favorite things: snowboarding, craft beer, rock climbing, ultimate frisbee, biking, hiking, triking (just kidding), craft beer, and camping. Hoping to build up rock climbing and snowboarding community here in Germany too!

Other loves include dancing, waterproof things, craft beer, collecting stickers, giving massages, playing games (board, card, otherwise), taking pictures, scuba diving, singalongs (bonus: dance party singalongs!), rocking out to electronic dance music (and enjoying lots of other kinds of music), swimming, playing my violin/ukulele/the piano (classically trained in piano and violin, competed for 10 years), connecting people, making new friends, volunteering, craft beer (whoo boy, almost forgot to mention that), and digging holes (ok, long walks too) on the beach.

PHILOSOPHY
I try to live my life in constant learning mode - to me this means listening with an open mind, asking questions, and connecting dots. I try to default to acceptance and curiosity instead of fear or judgment...the importance of which seems to grow the more divisive my home country becomes. I'm always looking for ways to help - I think it spreads happiness! It's easy to forget how miniscule we are in the grand scheme of things - as people, communities, countries, and this planet. I'm convinced that if people laughed together more there would be less global conflict :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've loved the travel I've been fortunate to do, and some of the most memorable and rewarding experiences I've had were when I was lucky enough to meet locals and folks living in those places. I love new experiences, new people, new lessons, and reciprocating all of that when I can!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

--Taught digital literacy to schoolteachers in rural Swaziland (now Eswatini)
--Rock climbed Monkey Face at Smith Rock in Oregon (350 ft tower with a 200 ft hanging free space rappel to get down)
--Swam/scuba dived with 7 different kinds of sharks (so far!)
--Bought a manual motorcycle in Vietnam, learned how to ride it (in Vietnamese traffic) and rode it down the country and into Cambodia
--Bought a car with my partner in Australia and lived out of it for 5 months while traveling 20,000 km (12,500 mi) along the east coast, south coast, and half the west coast
