About Me

COUCHSURFING REQUESTS

Please give us at least a week's notice for a Request to stay. We prefer to host Couchsurfers who have at least 3 or 4 of the ID Verifications completed, and References are a definite plus!

CURRENT MISSION

See stuff, do stuff, make stuff - building a house!

ABOUT ME

Retired California expat and spouse, interested in bicycling, travel, photography, art, architecture, food, cooking, real estate.

You'd probably get a decent idea of our interests and travels looking at my web site at http://www.stevehoge.com and checking my Flickr photos at http://www.flickr.com/steve_hoge/collections. Or troll me at https://www.facebook.com/stephen.hoge.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Have had great experiences both hosting and being hosted - always an adventure to meet and stay with somebody new. When we're the guests we get to show up with boatloads of built-in gratitude; when hosting we get to participate vicariously in other travelers' adventures!

Now that we've upgraded our offering from the original couch to an authentic guest room it's even easier than ever to host travelers on the spur of the moment.

Interests

Bicycle touring through Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Mexico, Spain, Morocco, Turkey, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, liveaboard diving in Thailand, architectural tourism all across the US. Try to get in my yoga a few mornings a week, trying go get out and dance a few days a week too!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music? Anything I can dance to! Although if it comes to something "challenging" like, say, Mahavishnu Orchestra, I might revert to a vague "sway".

For other media, it seems I prefer journalism, reportage and documentaries (esp travel and food!) to fiction and fantasy - though I have been known to enjoy the occasional chick-flick ;)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Aw, only one?

How about solo train hopping from CA to NY during a week of summer vacation? Sitting in the 1st row exchanging shit-eating grins with the Dalai Lama when he visited Santa Cruz in the '90s? Riding to the top of Gibraltar on our 4 month bicycle tour of Spain and Morocco? Being led onto the stage by James Brown and dancing with his band? Hope I'll have something new and amazing to add soon to the list!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Great cooking (name your cuisine!), travel advice, stories and photos, IT consulting (yes, if you at least know your password I can fix your WiFi), bicycle/automotive repair, emergency plumbing and electrical wiring fixes, carpentry and painting (sorry, no drywall skillz :( )

Countries I’ve Visited

Anguilla, Canada, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, New Zealand, Panama, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey, Viet Nam, Virgin Islands, British

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States
