About Me

I'm currently a PhD student in Theoretical Physics at the University of Toronto in Canada! I love to travel and meet new people, hoping to make some lifelong friends! I used to live in Japan before this so I understand many of the problems and challenges that people face in a new country, and so I'm happy to help people out in any way I can. Also I'm a MASSIVE football fan, my favourite teams are Arsenal and FC Barcelona.

If my name is hard to pronounce, you can call me Suica (スイカ) which means watermelon in Japanese. It’s also the name of the public transport IC card used in Tokyo.

I'm an open minded, naïve optimist, I always see the beauty and silver lining in situations because I genuinely believe that anything can happen. I love getting to know people and their ways of thinking.

Feel free to check out my instagram, I post about some of my travels there: https://www.instagram.com/streeetcar/

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love people. Especially their stories and how they ended up in the places where I meet them. I think it really puts things going on in my life into some (often much needed) perspective. I'm very curious and so if we meet, you'll find me asking you tons of questions so don't say I didn't warn you if that's not your jam.

Interests

I'm more of a food explorer than a sightseer. The way to my heart is through my tummy.

I am constantly in awe of nature, and I'm a real sucker for a beautiful scenery.

I love conversations, and how they give me a window into a person. Getting to know people, their interests and ways of thinking are all things that give me immense pleasure. Science, philosophy, travel, and football are also topics I enjoy very much ^_^

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Quite varied and ever changing, some constants include Linkin Park, Metallica and Frank Ocean. I love getting to know people's music tastes and why they're into what they're into. There are usually some great stories there!

Movies: Anything by Martin Scorsese or Chris Nolan. I'm into historical movies, especially those about controversial topics on which there is no clear consensus.

Books: I've been reading a lot of autobiographies recently;, I just finished Sir Alex Ferguson's. I also enjoy reading books which don't really fit into a particular genre, like 'If on a Winter's Night a Traveler'.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climb Mount Fuji during exam week at University

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you about the beauty of Physics, and I know quite a bit about football (or soccer, depending on where you're from). It would be amazing if we could play too :)

I find that meeting people with a traveler's mindset allows for sharing of really useful travel hacks and tips which can improve the traveling experience.
